Windows 8 Consumer Preview Thread

Yep, the offer is only until January 2013 though I can't remember the exact date. I think it is nearer the beginning of the month than the end though. At £25 it is a snip and need not be installed until the bugs are ironed out - it will update after installation anyway.

I'm 2 weeks into Win8 and I'm loving it more and more every day. It's such a polished OS. It gives me that same warm fuzzy feeling that BeOS did way back when. It feels like I am using "the future".

I like it because it's so fast!

This !

and this.

For some reason my kids win8 box is the machine I use most / quick resume/no hang ups... It's just so nippy despite only being an [email protected].

My 2600k which 'HAS' to run windows 7 gets zero to no use  (the only use I have for it is to fire up the VMs for the compiler farm)

Does anyone know a way of making the People app update the what's new feed automatically?

I want to leave it at the side of my screen on the what's new section but I don't want to have to keep updating it manually.

Anyone know of some sort of hack to get it to work?

What about sound via Windows 8, I can see beta drivers for Creative cards, but read reports of settings not saving and also sound dropping out.

Also I can't see drivers for Asus Xonar sound cards...

I'll wait till around December to upgrade, seems more sensible, let the drivers mature abit.

I haven't had much bother with mine, once or twice it's stopped working and I had to reboot and it's occasionally lost it's settings and reverts to a 2.1 configuration but for the most part it's been fine.

Major plus is that the computer actually goes to sleep now and doesn't bluescreen on resumation which it was doing under Windows 7 due to the Creative drivers.

Microsoft Expert Zone, ordered my copy from there too yesterday as their new Windows 8 training went up with the reward being you can get Win 8 pro for £9.99.

I just went to register on there, and one of the first things it asked me for was a "Retail Outlet Number", and although I am a registered OEM I don't appear to have one of those.

So far as I can see you actually have to be running a registered retail outlet to be eligible.

A nice thought though!

Thanks for feedback, I like the look of the new taskbar and the Icons seem more hi-res. I'll probably buy it in the end

Polished? You're kidding right? This is a genuine question on my part, open to all. In Win7, if you have a VPN connection live, you could see it in the notification area when you clicked on the network notification icon. You could choose to connect to the VPN, or, indeed, disconnect. This is no longer the case with Win8. You have to "hangup" the adapter manually. How is this polished?

Windows 7 was polished :)
