Windows 8 Consumer Preview Thread

BTW Whilst I'm here ... I take it that you still can't get flash running on the embedded metro browser although html5 works
:

nope and it won't be added either, not to IE anyway. ms have allready said metro won't support flash.

However I can't see any reason why Firefox or other webrowser can't use it, once they develop metro apps.

It's the final nail in flashes coffin (along with wp7) that apple started.

this is a very quick os, once you disable the metro ui its similar to windows 7 in appearance. im trying out some games but so far the memory usage of the os is a fair bit lower than win7.

Damn right... I don't understand the negativity here especially for the guys here who customise windows.

Disable metro. Install ultramon / rocketdock and you've got one hella slick OS

The only gripe I've got so far is that metro is in fairly harsh on the GPU. GPU load and memory usage is a bit too high for my poorly 8400gs

Has anyone tried games ? Now i mean real games not some lame html 5 pinpall app which process you can't kill.

I was pretty disappointed that quake live didn't work and as well as old applications conning up with errors.

I think with windows 8 they are expecting people to forget 10-15 years of applications and functionality and start pushing blocks around. Who thinks of this ****?

All of my games work.

a) you can kill metro apps by hovering in the top left to bring up the switcher. then right click on which app you want>close

b) i've tried portal2 and crysis warhead and they both ran fine.

I find it pretty weird to be honest. How do you switch it off? :O I'm running it as a vbox so I can just "pull the plug" but I'm interested in knowing where the shutdown button is in the actual OS.

move the mouse to the top right and move down or bottom right and move up and click settings then power or you can press Win+C
