Windows 8 Consumer Preview Thread

I think they are going to have to add visual cues for the corners, it's all pretty unintuitive, even with the "memory muscle" Start Menu bottom left.

You can shut down if you logout, and I think it's in the settings if you bring up charms in metro.

It can be a pain at times also with them not appearing. Sometimes have to move my mouse there a couple of times for it to show up, the worst one is the start menu to the left though such a pita to use.

i used a method called "registry editing"

but for someone as clueless as you id suggest you stay away from the registry or you will bork your install. leave the pros to do it.

The registry key which was in the Developer preview is no longer there, and creating it doesn't solve the issue either, so how did you do it?

So how does the whole launching xbox games work. Do they somehow appear on your PC screen over ethernet or can you just start the games so they appear on the TV your xbox is rigged up to which is pointless. I don't get how this feature works.

so someone is clueless because they asked you how do something? you didn't mention anything about editing the registry in your original post. also, i'd like to see some evidence of you having disabled metro in the CONSUMER PREVIEW we are talking about and not the 6 month old dev preview.

For what it's worth, the few games that I've tried have worked fine. Performance is possibly down a tad. But it's much better than the Developer Preview, which broke half the games I tried.

Also, I'm liking the right-click where the Start button used to be feature. You can quickly access the Control Panel, Device Manager, Command Prompt, Network Connections and more, which definitely helps to make up for other things takings so long to do (like shutting down the computer).

I found out that the metro is technically the start menu. When you right click on a block (are they called blocks or what) it comes up with a menu that says unpin from start menu. So it is technically the start menu it has just been given a new interface.

All new installed programs got a new block, even the uninstall and help files, which i thought was pretty ugly and lame. But i moved the application ones over to another column. they got rid of the windows key + tab feature from windows 7, that now brings up a column down the left side similar to ubuntu.

On my dell u2412m with 1920x1200 and running off ssd, it was quite snappy. But shame about problems i mentioned earlier, the new features are not worth the hassle. One thing that is annoying is the way mail application and other "new" applications open by themselves and there is no way to close them other than alt+f4 or end the task.

Start menu background should be transparent on desktops.

start button (well the area) and the settings button should be able to be on separate screens.
One far left one far right. I find it hard to aim the mouse between the 2 screens.

uhh yeh thats it really so far. My only real complaints.

Or click at the top of it and drag it to the bottom?

i have to say i love the metro ui on my phone, i hate in on the desktop

i don't understand why they have removed the start menu bar from the desktop everything takes to long to find its one big mess

will be sticking to windows 7 at least microsoft have said they will be supporting windows 7 till 2020 that should give them enough time to go back on this decision :P
