Windows 8 Consumer Preview Thread

Dunno about that. I work in IT, and in an office of about 30 people the vast majority of them have a completely stock desktop. They don't change anything. Never mind non technical people and home users.

I work with 6000 desktops and about 600 portable devices. If changing of their desktops wasn't blocked I can gaurentee they would want to 'personalise' their desktop!

Indeed, but how many change it to the most efficient way. I'm going to guess not so many.

TBH though its one thing I don't like about the Windows Mobile. I like to customise my phone desktop too!

Non, it's like cats and dogs and half naked men and woman! Not a nice site in a business so unprofessional.

Since the launch of the tablet from Microsoft Windows 8 might be a success.

So what will Microsoft do with Windows RT on the tablets with regards to word processing, spreadsheet, etc? Are there metro apps of Word, Excel and stuff like Apple has with iOS Pages, Numbers, etc.

So non of them put their most used apps in shortcuts or on their start bars? Everyone goes through the start menu for every program they want to use?

Sounds a bit restrictive to me!

Even here in the backwards ye olde world of the NHS do even the most basic of computer literate people pin office apps to the start bar!

i like it on my tablet but on my desktop too much hassle i prefer a proper home screen.

I will get the proper release version for teh tab but thats it.

BTW when is teh release?

Found the perfect use for me for metro!

My htpc, I control my htpc with my tablet and windows 7 is a bit of a dog hen you are trying to push a small start orb and the only icons I really need to click are wmc, Firefox, Thunderbird and any games I install

May give it a go when its released

Tried installing it on VMWare Player and I keep getting this error
0x0000005D
And it asking me to constantly restart.

Apparently it means my CPU isn't compatible...eh..since when is a i7 2600k not compatible...

Alright finally got it installed and I HATE Metro on the desktop.

I can see it working for phones and tablets but my lord is it terrible. I had to search the web just to findout how to shut down or restart the system.

Wanting a Windows Live account as well? Ugh, and there's an option to take a profile pic using a camera.

The entire thing is terrible on a normal PC. Horizontal scrolling for everything on metro, ESC button seeming useless in it, and having to press "Go Up" when trying to go back and forth in folders. Terrible.

If this is the future for Windows I'll most likely stay with Windows 7 and later on Migrate to a Mac.

ctrl alt delete ? I dont use metro part, escape always works for me or click top left corner to go desktop. I never used the start menu anyway, I never stopped using desktop icons and that works now like always

The Metro UI bits you're forced to use really aren't that difficult once you get familiar with them. Even if you do need to Google some (which I have done in the past) it takes like 20 seconds and then you know forever.

That charms bar thing that you get after scrolling to the right and holding the mouse on the side only pops up randomly it seems. I've hovered the mouse there and it'll pop out, try again and nothing several times.

I hate that I need to scroll to the sides, I've a res of 2560x1440, I shouldn't have to. I also don't want anything to do with this metro affair. There should be a simple option to just disable it.

Thank goodness I can still install and use rocketdock.
