Windows 8 - the Features, Applications and News Thread

Liking RTM so far :). Will wait for it to be released on Technet before moving my main system over but so far I can't see any differences from the RC version apart from the fish has gone

yeh that made me sad ;_;
the install seems pretty smooth tho

u see they felt the need to explain how to bring the menu up hehe

The beta fish was already gone in the release preview. I thought the "tutorial" was very minimal too but hey it's better than nothing. I suppose we'll see how joe public reacts between now and Christmas, its really tough to call. A lot of people have warmed to Windows 8 over the course of the betas but I don't think the average consumer would be that patient.

Then again, I've installed the release preview over the top of Windows 7 on a couple of family laptops and I kid you not, they didn't even notice. Maybe us geeks over think things.

What bugs me is the lies that show windows 8 booting fast and windows 7 lagging behind and vista even slower, well guess what my windows 7 boots Very fast just as fast as any windows 8 they keep showing.

MSIT Win 8 RTM build downloading now to my work machine. Haven't installed Office 2013 on my RP machine so looking forward to seeing what it looks like! :)

simulatorman (moj kolego ;)) do you have the ability to start polls?

Office 15 borked out on me yesterday, I ended up uninstalling it and going back to 2010.

On the same hardware Windows 8 is almost certainly going to take less time to do a shutdown/power on cycle than Windows 7 by the very nature of having less to do during boot. If you have a fast SSD though the subjective difference isn't going to be a lot.

It does undeniably boot faster. Every PC i've tried and every benchmark i've seen proves it's faster. And the point is Win 8 will boot even quicker for you then, as obviously all PC hardware isn't the same so if your Win 7 PC can match the MS examples on different hardware or their rounded up averages then 8 will even faster for you. This should be obvious/common sense.

To be fair to Windows 8, I found the speed improvement on the RP very impressive. And that was using an SSD. It's a very quick booting OS.

Not sure on this, might get it for the htpc, use a free air mouse to xontrol it..but i dont know, doubt i will for the main pc..i like looking at a deaktop background!
