That's sure true! People who just machines are not going to be impressed with the new OS. However, don't forget they can stay with Windows 7 and it looks like it will be still on sale. I know its only a short-term solution as Windows 9 may well be like Windows 8 but customers can get used to things later.

Well if it comes in at £30 compared with the usual price of Windows we might encourage Microsoft and actually buy it. Its down to Apple upgrade prices. Beside, who says the non-official versions will actually register and work.

Oh, I wonder what that certain jungle store is offering then... It seems fairly obvious that a download from Microsoft is the way to go - they've been doing this with the student software for a long while, I think via Digital river.

Its just the upgrade DVD, thats all. The upgrade DVD can't be used as a bootable ISO, it can only upgrade from a previous installed OS.

I will buy it on the day of release, that's for sure.

My reasoning is not because I like it.. hell no, I don't really like much of it one bit. I'm doing a Computer Science PhD though and so will need to learn about how it works since it will be new software. I can see me getting a lot of calls from people asking how to do things,.. and it's just one of those things I will be expected to know how to use.

I really can't see it going too well though. Surely... surely there must be a fairly easy way to customise the metro look and to make it only show when I want it... to boot straight to the desktop etc. Microsoft are a big company and no doubt spend millions on trying to understand and create a good user experience. I'm sure for that reason there will be a way to modify it or a way to alter it (or at least I hope so!).

I'm not too worried about it though, I mean lets face it... we won't be used to it but it will still do everything we need, and we will learn to become familiar with it. I think people are often scared of change and that's a big issue with the huge changes in Windows 8.

You cannot disable metro and get the start button back from a click of the mouse in the RTM version and considering the RTM is the final build, the retail version wont be any different.

Its even a ballache to make your own shortcuts to appear on metro,, not very user friendly, but then again I didnt like vista, but it grew on me... I hate change:D

First time I've tried it this evening since the early developer preview release. So far, I don't like it at all - and I generally like new Windows releases (I didn't even mind Vista at the time...)

On my laptop, I imagine it would be 'ok' - but on my desktop with 2 screens I found it very counter intuitive. Also, is it me - or can you not search the store at all?

how do you do it though and how the hell do you close IE from the Metro without having to scroll to the right to bring up the sidebar, click the middle Metro button, scroll to the left top right and close it from there.

You have to make sure the shortcut you make goes into one of the shortcut folders, ie accessories, system tools etc, then get metro up and start to type your new shortcut and it will appear, then pin it to metro. But I have yet to figger out how to make metro search in other locations for shortcuts

I dont know how you close ie, I just get metro up and then close it from the left side of the screen. But if you go into the internet tools, I think there is a option to set it so it opens up on the desktop instead.
