Anyone found a way of launching a desktop app twice from Metro?
Just tried - No!
Out of interest, why would you want to do that!

without a key, how long is the trial mode in win 8?. On CP right now, but interested in taking a look.
30 days though there are some ideas on how to reset the counter
No idea but I just used a local account to make sure!

Or pin it to taskbar and use middle mouse button, like you did on win7.
Why on earth would you ever delve into explorer to open up multiple instances.
You're just an old stick in the mud, admit it!you know, Athanor. the problem I have with 'Metro' (or whatever then end up calling it!) is not that is doesn't work well but that I don't, normally, work with full screen applications. I might have an accounts program, word and an email program on screen and visible at once. Now 'Metro' apps don't allow for this - they are all either full screen of a narrow column. The way I usually work allows a single mouse click to move around applications but, using the equivalent 'Metro' applications, this process is harder.
Then again, what we currently have in 'Metro' apps are not really up to their desktop applications. Say take 'Metro' mail and compare with the Thunderbird I use. The latter is much more capable. I don't see the point of moving to 'Metro' Mail just to end up with a poorer application. Again, Windows live Messenger (or any alternative) on the desktop allows a small window but metro wants a long column of the whole screen. Its no contest.
Now, I agree they may be some useful apps in the future and the present ones may evolve over time but the present ones don't do much more than the gadgets (remember those?) in Windows 7 and Vista. Those were so popular that the store for them closed down last year! of course, for casual users, the apps in 'Metro' my be all they need but for those of us who work our machines harder I just don't see it. I would rather see the choice to run 'Metro' or not available in setup.
However, I shall be upgrading in due course, despite the rather nastier look due to the lack of Aero.
Sorry if this has been posted before, but: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/Windows-8-Metro-RTM-Server-2012-Release-Preview,news-39360.html
I don't like the sound of this...
Oh please let some of the people running pirated copies of Win8 RTM be daft enough to have linked live accounts
I'm so confused.
People are saying desktop is completely gone from W8, but in RTM's I can see, in screenies the desktop is there
