Windows cannot find drives. (PLEASE HELP!)

I am knid of releived and annoyed the batter idea didn't work.

Releived because all the testing we've done to have someone say jank the battery and it work would have been slightly annoying

Annoyed cos I was hoping it would work and you'd be installing Win7 now

Although that firmware problem does sound very hopefull , God know what we can do now if that doesnt cure it.

Maybe trying a different HDD

Would seem to be the only solution, as it definately sounds like a incompatibilty problem with the HDD and motherboard. Just hope OP has another hdd to test and hope it works, or else it is a faulty south bridge on the board if no hdd work.
 
In all the years I've worked in IT and been building PC's for years b4 that (back in the 386 and 486 days) , I have never seen a system detect the HDD in the BIOS and have windows refuse to see it , unless maybe theres a 3rd party driver needing to be installed

I think I covered all , or as many bases as I could

I do hope this firmware update , which from what i'm reading is actually downgrading it , works

Cant say I have ever seen it happen either as it is normally if seen in BIOS, windows installation sees it and no problems, only like you said if a 3rd party driver was needed, which I aint see for a while now with sata supported at the installation stage of the OS, but it looks like the bios is only kind of seeing the drive, but south bridge is then playing funny tricks with the drive at the OS installation stage.
 
I take it its a brand new drive Jack , ordered with the rest of your kit from OcUK?

If it is , and thats the problem , might be an idea too have it swaped too a different make instead of having the issue of flashing the firmware

If that does indeed end up to be the problem you've been sold something not fit for purpose (even though not really anyone to blame for that really) , you shouldn't have too flash the firmware on a brand new drive too get it working

I know that means hassle contacting OcUK explaining the problem and the incompatability , convinsing them thats the problem and the whole RMA over Christmas deal but still

what burning package you have??? I know nero allows you to select CD-ROM (boot), then just add your F3.exe file from the downloaded zip to CD-ROM compliation, then hit burn and it will create a bootable CD for you ( in theory)
 
I may just go to ****** and buy a f*n new HDD tomorow. Either way im going to my bed haha. Cant thank you guys enough for the help. Il go tomorow and see what ****** have to offer. Dont know what I'll do with my £40 hard drive though :S
 
Sounds like a plan m8 ;)

You could always see if you could return that £40 HDD , I guess if they tested it and said its ok , they might not want too refund you , but I think theres grounds and enough proof of an incompatability

Especially if you get another drive and that works fine , just avoid Samsung :p

If you do get a drive and get your system working though m8 , don't forget too let us know ;)

Have you even tried the drivers for an F6 install. They are listed on the Gigabyte site for both the AMD and the Gigabyte controllers if you haven't.

jack.....did you take the battery out of the mobo for at least a minute? if not can you humour me and do it?

if that still doesnt work have you tried the drive in another machine? maybe format it then try it in yours again?
 
you guys will not belive this.

I went to my local electronics retailer and bought a new HDD. since im such a n00b i bought the exact same HDD. Couldnt belive my stupidity. I thought meh, might as well try it, the guys says il get my 50£ back if it doesnt work. The exact same HDD. (see where this is going?)

So i plug it in, and wow, its working!

I stick the OCuk faulty one in the box (THE EXACT SAME) and im going to take it back!

Good to hear it's finally working m8 ;)

I'm not sure I would have risked buying the exact same make and model as a suspected faulty or incompatable HDD, but glad its worked out for you.

That is good news, the drive you bought from the electrical supply must have been a older stock, as the firmware is just a patch to downgrade the firmware in the drive. I have 2 F3 drives, and the one I bought last nov 09 got different firmware to the one I bought septemember from OCUK.
