Windows Home Server

So what does PP3 give us? I dont even have PP2 as my server is doing its job perfectly, so I havent bothered.

Currently for me, the "This operation cannot be completed at this time" error when upgrading the Connector software. Brilliant :mad:

* Windows 7 Libraries integration
When you install the Windows Home Server Connector and log on a computer running Windows 7, you can access the Windows Home Server shared folders from the Windows 7 libraries.
* Windows 7 Action Center backup warning suppression
After you install the Windows Home Server Connector to enable the home server backup for your computer running Windows 7, you can suppress the Action Center warning reminding you that Windows Backup has not been set up.
* Windows 7 power settings
You can configure your computer running Windows 7 to wake up at a scheduled backup time and then go back to sleep after the backup finishes.
* Console support for Windows 7
Windows 7 is properly displayed as the operating system shown in the Computers & Backup tab.
* Windows Search
Windows Search 4 is included to improve query search times, indexing times, and reliability. Extended Remote Discovery increases the efficiency of searching across all your libraries running Windows Search 4. Files encrypted with EFS are now supported.
* TV archive
Windows Home Server can automatically archive recorded TV by moving your recordings from a Windows Media Center computer to your home server in the format of your choice. This enables playback in the correct format for your home computers and/or portable devices.
* Console view
You can view information about your home server’s storage space, hard drives, backup status, and more from Windows Media Center.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I have 7 and it displays correctly, backs up correctly by waking the machine and putting it back to sleep, and I have access to the shares from links elsewhere to the Libraries folder.

The only real improvement I can see is the archiving and auto conversion of recorded TV. Would be great, if my HTPC wasnt playing up lol.

Just installed Home Server for the first time. Love the warning webpage :D

Installed in on a virtual pc on a machine running vista ultimate 32 and it Works very well.

Just installed the connector and so on on windows 7 machine and it works well with media center\zune software.

Just thought id say hi!

Was looking for anti virus for WHS and read about avast. However, couldn't find their server edition and their website says their products are all new as from today. So, what anti-virus should I use when I build my server?

Also check out NOD32 thats what I have running on my WHS.

But whatever you use don't use AVG as I tried the demo version and once it's on you can't get it off without a rebuild of WHS. Even their support pages information doesn't work and they recognise it as a problem.

Built and installed WHS today and just finished updating it. Got a slight problem in that I keep getting a message from the console saying my passwords between server and client are different and I need to change them so I can log in easier. Which password do I change? Getting a bit confused here (not hard).

Completely ignore this post!! Was being a bit of a tw*t and not reading the message properly and now I've sorted it!

Trying to remember the situation exactly herer, as I'm at work and not at my desktop at home.

But if I remember it's all to do with the back ups.

You have on you networked PC's a user log e.g. e.g. Fred with a password of Bloggs.

You have on the WHS a user of Fred with a password of Wibble.

When WHS tries to connect to the remotre computers to back them up it needs to log onto them to do this, therefore it needs a password and by default it will try to use the same username / password that you looged on with therefore you get the error

Sorry if this is wrong, but I'm going by memory when away from the pc.

Thanks Taff, got that sorted but I have some more questions!

I currently have my main pc, laptop & htpc and now my home server. My login name for the first 3 is the same and I only use the administrator role (naughty I know but there's only me and the Mrs who uses them). I've changed all the passwords so that they match up with WHS. However, now I can't log in to remote access cos it says I can't use an administrator role to sign in with. Does this mean I'm going to have to create new accounts on all 3 machines?

Secondly, bit of a noob question here but what's the best way to copy my data to WHS? When I logged in with remote access I could see the shares but the upload button only lets me pick single files. I'm sure there's something simple I'm not doing but I'm buggered if I can figure it out!

Lastly, when data goes into the shares, how does it get spread out onto the other discs? I have a 1 TB disc with both c: & d: on it and another 2 1.5 TB discs which I'm hoping to fill up with my data this weekend.

Thanks to anyone who can help, I doubt these will be my last posts here!
