Windows Home Server

Take a look at the time and date settings, might need to RDP into the server and do it through the taskbar clock or control panel.

Seem to remember that it asks for the kb settings during setup, but doesn't set the time.

Hi All,

Wonder if someone can help me out here.

Using WHS to back up 3 Win 7 PC's, running WHS with Service Pack 3. Was running with this for about 2 months.

Two weeks ago WHS stated the back up server wasn't running and that the back up were corrupt. Tried to run DB back up repair with no joy.

So thought re-install WHS to cure problem, but having completed re-install it still states back up server is not running and it won't allow me to start it.

Have tried backup repair again with no luck. Anyone get any advice as to how to get this back up and running. Not worried about the back ups that are stored on the WHS as I'm happy to delete them. Though don't want to lose all my other files that are on the shared folders. So don't want to do a complete clean re-install of WHS.

Any help appreciated.

Taff

Thanks for the screenies of your Disk management.

I will post mine tomorrow after I have finished copying DATA

@ Tomsk ...the majority of your disks don't seem to be ober 90% full how come?

I'm not exactly sure of what you're asking.
However if you work it out, allowing for rounding errors, all the storage drives each have ~95GB free. WHS is balancing for equal free space on each drive.

Or are you implying that I have a lot of pron? :p

Here's my secondary server which I tend to play around with - a bit full at the moment as I'm down 2 drives for RMA.

Balanced state with duplication on:

I turned off duplication on all the shares and let it re-balance:

I miss WHS, but I can't bring myself to give up IIS7 on Server 2008 :(

Anyone know when version 2, based on 2008R2, is due to be released? :p

I've only seen rumours that it may be next year sometime, can't seem to find any links at the moment to substantiate it though :(

I want WHS2 to be out before I move out. Then I can build a nice new server with shiny huge drives in it, and leave the little one I have now at my parents. Dont wanna have to build one on WHS, then rebuild it to WHS2

why don't you virtualise windows 2008 on top of WHS. i'm sure you'd have no problems installing vmware or virtualbox on WHS. :)

I'm starting to come to the conclusion I don't know what I could do without it now.

My data storage was a right mess stuff all over the place.

Now its all organised.

My previous install of WHS was running MS Virtual Server no problems (didn't seem to like VMWare though). However, it doesn't really address the problem and it seems like overkill to run both! :p

My data storage is all organised (WHS didn't revolutionise that for me), and with TVersity I get media streaming like WHS too. The only thing I don't get is automated backups and the very funky addins.

Automated backups is the single most important feature of my WHS and the only feature I couldnt live without. Especially seen as I 'simulated' a hard drive failure on my laptop to test the restore proccess, and its brilliant. Back up and working as if nothing had happened in 30 mins!

I'd no doubt use it if the connector software worked more reliably - normally fails to install on at least one of my machines. Robocopy batch files are my less eligant solution. A rebuild never takes me long anyway.

What issues are you having? I have the connecter installed on a XP PC, an XP Laptop, a Vista x86 Laptop, a Vista x86 HTPC, and a 7 x64 PC and havent had any issues?

In a nutshell, its the "Connector Install Problems - This Operation Cannot be Completed at this time" error. There is a thread on wegotserved (here), and I had thought I'd solved it but it keeps returning. I now think it's go something to do with PP2. To be honest, the issue has been so frustrating that just the thought of it has put me off trying WHS again!
