Problem is depending on how your company does things technically if you call in to say you can't make it = no obligation to pay you, if they tell you to not come in then they usually have to pay you for the day. It caught my colleague out a few years back :s

Also they often won't have made a decision until the time most people have already set out to work so it's too late.

Well I must have measured in a low spot, most of the places I am measuring are close to/above 10 inches.

Boiler stopped working! Pipes frozen apparently (house share).

My dad's boiler is having problems - just starts juddering and after a bit shuts down - my first thought was something frozen but he has been over it with my brother in law who works in that industry and doesn't seem to be the case - we are thinking its maybe a problem with the gas supply - not sure if local or they are reducing the pressure country wide or something.

Well, snow is finally petering out in Southampton, it's been non stop since 11am, got very heavy from 4pm onwards and has been constant since then. Just popped out to see how deep it is in the close. On our driveway we have around 6 inches where it's all blown up in the winds. In the park it's around 4 to 5 inches. That's a pretty tidy amount for the south coast in fairness.

It's saying we are due some heavy snow around midnight, then dying away and returning from 4am onwards and through the rest of the day all be it lighter. But then in the afternoon/evening there's the potential for another dumping with the next band coming through from 3pm onwards.

Absolutely lovely to look at, it's so pretty. I love this for a few days, it's a cracking change to see a proper winter.

People have been panic buying. Sad really

Remember going into the co-op the last time snow was forecast and the queues stretched from the checkouts all the way down the aisles to the back of the store. Needless to say the snowmageddon never arrived and the shelves were empty for most of the week.

Bah. Further east and its diddly squat. Just light drizzle which froze on the pavements making it somewhat crunchy underfoot.

No snow fell up here in Edinburgh overnight so hopefully the clowncil will be out today clearing roads so that the buses can run.

I wonder if it is worth getting up shortly to go for a paper? Yesterday they did not make it to my local shop and Millie my cat who usually accompanies me is a bit of a wuss when the snow is deeper than she is tall decided to to bother.

I see the media particularly the BBC are still obsessed with the current weather conditions, how many more people can they interview stranded in a car somewhere?

Heavy snow was forecast last night, the local authority closed all the schools expecting 6 inches or more of snow. Woke up this morning to no snow.

We've had mixtures of rain in with it - kind of weird - top surface is all like glazed over really thin so you start to skid then go through it, hit another layer of ice about 2 inches down which is a little more substantial but also gives way after half a second into another 4 inches of snow - kind of unsettling to walk on.

No chance of getting anywhere today. I feel sorry for the poor people that left work at their usual times because their bosses demanded they stay and ended up getting stuck in it. Someone I used to work with left at 5.30pm, got home at 10pm (5 mile journey) and their manager was mocking them on Facebook thinking it was hilarious. Nobs.

Edit - Literally just had a text from our directors saying the office is closed for all staff. So glad they were sensible about it.

Police here have put up an advisory saying don't travel and they are still recovering people who were stuck from last night - major incidents declared in two places.

I cant be bothered now, I will need to dig the car out and it will take a while as the snow is deep where it is and I will need to dig a track about 10+ metres to the main road thats seen some gritting/clearing. I think it will take over an hour to do.

Well I'm in work, it's not been bad here at all and the main roads are fine really, just the village I come from is terrible
