1962-3 was the bad one - I went to work on my Triumph every day - it was hairy though - never came off once till it had all gone and hit a triangle of gravel at a junction.
1981-2 was one mentioned above - we went out for a walk - got 100 yds and turned back - it was so cold -18c - Just checked and on Dec 13th it was recorded at -25c at Shawbury near us - we couldn't talk - I used to drive a TK Bedford and the snow was up to door mirrors where snow ploughs had cut through. - We really do need one more just so younger people can see what it was like :) ********** to add to the **********

do miss being snowed in ,those rare days when everything came to a standstill (im from yorkshire) and you just wanted it to go on
pretty ideal for me today ,light wind and suns out ,going over to polzeath in a while take the dog a walk and have a surf

1.3 degrees C here at the moment and snowing lightly although it's supposed to turn to rain later. It's been a very cold last few days though and the highest temp we have seen is 3.4 degrees C.

Seems to have been on for a while last night but mostly rained away although laying higher up in the hills.

Had a few spells of sleet/snow earlier today but came to nothing.

Really hope we do have at least one more in my lifetime. Think I'm gonna have to do a proper winter somewhere like Canada or somewhere though :(

The models at the moment are skirting around the edge of a 2010 like setup but just missing so not holding out much hope though there are a bit more signals for cold than the last few winters.

Winter Forecast - TL;DR Summary

I've heard about '62 in devon snowdrifts so high only the tops of road signs protruding above the snow and someone said to me they had freezing rain when it fell it road etc were like glass. Birds perched in the trees were frozen to the branches.

The early 80's there were plenty of cold winters I still have some old photos somewhere one with nearly a foot of snow overnight. Can still remember the cat jumping like a loon up and forward trying to make headway through it and giving up after 10 minutes. I still took my motorbike out too driving in the two ruts the car tyres left was interesting not so bad going forward but when you had to turn right going over the hump of ice left in the middle was hairy.

Do you still get snow ont' moors in Yorkshire nowadays?

Bloody hell I want your view. :p

Covering of snow on the roads up here (Aberdeen) but expect it to thaw by mid-day.

Don't think it will thaw it's pretty thick just in time for everyone heading to work and it looks like it will be on and off today in Aberdeen.
