It’s so cold here, this morning we had some hail and it froze to our windows (still there) - we literally have frosted windows like the windows in our bathrooms!

Yes I wonder why the BBC is obsessed with a major and highly unusual meteorological event that has caused major disruption, loss of life and injury..................

I wouldn't call it unusual, we had worse winter in 2010/11 and same in the 90's and 80's, these events seem pretty cyclical though occurring once a decade

Two extreme and and opposing weather patterns meeting slap bang over the top of the British Isles is far from normal and by definition of it's occurrence regularity is unusual

2 miles of farmers tracks and .5 mile of basically off road gravel rutted track.

Freezing rain. Very rare here. Then snow again! No wonder there were so many accidents in Kent. 20 in just 5 minutes apparently.

Snowing again here in Gloucestershire, big flakes this time on top of what we already had. Some of the drifts are almost 4 feet deep in places. The water for the sheep keeps freezing and there was a very small rabbit in the garden looking for food, poor little thing.

...and still nothing here. Skies as grey as it can get but nada, not a flake. Looking at the news the traffic is/was at a standstill on the A303 due to heavy snow I'm supposed to driving down there on Sunday

Its heavier but it looks more patchy today. Stopped now but i expect it to be on and off today unlike yesterday where it was non stop for 12 or so hours.

Hardly. It just depends what timescale you apply to it.

1927: blizzard began on Christmas Day in the Midlands and Wales, resulting in some of heaviest snowfalls of 20th Century.

1933: One of worst blizzards to ever hit the British Isles, which saw 48 hours of continuous snowfall.

1947: Severe winter weather across northern Europe from January to March with heavy snow.

1962-63: The so called ‘Big Freeze’ saw Thames freeze for first time since 1880. Sheffield had 4ft of snow. It remains one of the coldest winters on record in the UK, with the coldest weather for 200 years and a 36-hour blizzard causing heavy drifting snow in most parts of the country. Snow was still on the ground in some places in may.

1979: coldest winter since ‘big freeze’ of 1962-63. On the 13th of Jan temperatures fell to -24.6C at Conwath in Strathclyde.

2010: "The winter of 2010–2011 was a weather event that brought heavy snowfalls, record low temperatures, travel chaos and school disruption to the islands of Britain and Ireland. It included the UK's coldest December since Met Office records began in 1910."

So even in recent history this doesn't even count as anything special. looking at that short list it looks pretty cyclic to me with more severe conditions prevailing every 10-20 years. The only big difference is that we didn't have the media frenzy and social media hysterics back then.

It's stopped here again too, was quite heavy fall ~30mins or so ago.

Still snowing over Hedge End apparently, so it won't take long before we are getting some again. In fact, I think it's just started again in the last few seconds!

We were talking about the very same thing last night, funnily enough, i.e. that it could mean a few years of bad winters to come.

Flooding could definitely be a bit of a problem in the next week or two.
