Is this all fate getting revenge on us after all those celebrities were saying Britain will never do well in the winter olympics because we don't get snow?

It's been quite heavy here in Wiltshire, no one went to work at my place today so I couldn't go in on my own really :D

My partner works 3pm til 9.30pm and has rang in as she's not a confident driver and doesn't quite fancy it! Supposed to get worse here from 3pm. The manager she spoke to started listing off all the people that have made it in :/ she feels a bit guilty now but imo if she's not confident enough it's not worth it (I would take her in and pick her up but we have a 2 year old who will be in bed well before home time)

The manager sounds like a ***. Ask him if he'll pay for the damage if she ends up in a ditch or has to spend the night in a hotel.

It's stopped here again too, was quite heavy fall ~30mins or so ago. ;)

Still snowing over Hedge End apparently, so it won't take long before we are getting some again. In fact, I think it's just started again in the last few seconds!

Throwing it down again now in West End, its very heavy, I was not expecting this down here today.

Mental isn't it. He wasn't saying she couldn't stay home but was sort of trying to encourage her to come in. They probably won't pay her but that's the least of my concerns really, sooner be safe than sorry. I'm a confident driver and the journey home last night actually scared me somewhat.

It's a supermarket, and I can't imagine it will be busy if it does get worse tonight

Tell her to phone up 15 mins before she's due to work and say her car is stuck in a ditch and she'll try to get in asap. Then phone back an hour later and say now the car wont start and waiting for recovery. Phone back 3 hours later saying recovery will only take the car home due to the weather therefore she wont be able to make it into work.

So to conclude, once every 520 weeks is not unusual. Got it.

Considering the planet has been spinning for billions of years I'd say 520 weeks is a very short period

Even Ice Ages which occur roughly every 100,000 years are not unusual in the grand scheme of things yet when it happens people will be crying how it's so unexpected and not normal despite happening regular every 100k years

But if you think a cyclical event which generally happens every decade without fail is "unusual" then so be it

To put it into perspective in 2010 we had near 3 months of freezing temps reaching as low as -16 on the coast and the whole of thank UK pretty much covered in snow for just as long, that was more unusual than what we've witnessed this past week

IIRC you want to be a bit careful pressuring staff to come in if they've expressed concerns for health and safety - with the law changes around about 2014 the employer - both company and individual - can be held liable if something happens (and there is evidence).

I enjoy This, a bit long winded perhaps but will get them feeling bad :D

Snow is falling well now down in the Gatwick area :)

Think it'll be the last of the snow for this year (the beginning of the year at least), meant to be stopping in a couple of hours.

Handsome weird sleet stuff a moment ago in Bucks but suddenly snowing now.

The roads all the way home are absolutely fine it's literally as you get 400yarda from my house they turn to pot :D

Well out of 300 only 10 of us turned up for work. Exec had a meeting and decided we'd stay open, then the snow returned and the office closed at 1:30.

I think they were desperate to stay open in order to avoid paying the people who didn't turn up.

I've been driving for many years and it was an interesting commute today!

Coming down loads here now.

I live in a cul de sac and the road was clear at lunch time, it’s now covered in snow and quite deep.

Chucking it down in brum at the moment.

All very mild north Herts and mid/east Beds. Snow flurries and cold, that's about it this week.

Well i had to go and ******* say it... It's all ****** now. Trains getting cancelled, which means I'm unable to go to a gig tonight, which I paid for for my friends and I.. £120 down the pan :P

Not sure how i'm getting home.. yay.

So was it just Stoke that had pretty much nothing? Days of snow everywhere but here it's just cold and windy. :(

That's Stoke council for you, cut backs innit. Can't even afford snow in winter..;):):):).

I'm disappointed though, this countrywide blanket of snow has given us the swerve so far. Maybe it's a snow hurricane and we are at it's center where it's all calm...
