He's talking about his switchable 4WD system and how he had to tow a Fiat Ducato van most of the way.

Got it in one.

Nearly lost it going down hill, as a load of sheep ran out in front of me. Had to use a combination of the brakes, handbrake and reverse to slow me down enough to genitally slide into a small ditch...

I've already said we can agree to disagree. Change is normal, and so is a foot of snow in March on the south coast. think we all get it.

I'm not really sure what your point is - there are many natural cycles which tend to influence the weather though the interaction is more complex.

While there are more factors at play crude graphing of solar cycles against El Nino oscillation shows a higher chance for wintery weather in the UK at certain points where the cycles are right and higher chance of notable flooding at other points where the cycles cross.

:p

Snow was predicted by the met office to hit Stoke around 5pm and last a few hours. Just like the last few days... nothing whatsoever. Incredible.

Sadly we are forecast rain from here on out - though with current temperatures it will likely freeze on the ground for a bit initially and not really start to thaw out til well into tomorrow.

I was just pointing out that the current conditions are not that common in their timing or severity. People have pointed out that the last time we had wintry weather this severe was 7 years ago and classify that an occurrence every decade as common. Given common does not have a specific definition we will not reach agreement. I agree that given climate change, the volatility and therefore frequency of adverse weather conditions is increasing.

Other than when we reach this point in the solar cycle we almost inevitably get a something like this - the exact timing can depend on other factors as well and it isn't an exclusivity to extreme winters or cold events.

It is still cheaper to have a few semi snow days that to invest in all the equipment needed.

Back to typical British snow here, wet and sticking to everything.

Despite the forecast of rain it has started snowing again for now.

Just had someone drive a car down the road - pretty much the first vehicle other than off-roader stuff that has been along - they made it down alright but had some fun and games going back up - would get so far then it would slide to one side or the other - eventually managed it - this was someone driving sensibly and looked like they had some talent/experience for driving in treacherous conditions as well from the deliberation and style of approach - not some muppet going at it.

Haven’t had much snow all week, hasn’t stopped now since about 15:00, pretty light but must have about 3 inches now, if it keeps going all night then it’s gonna be interesting in the morning

Properly swirling in like we had in 2010 now puffy snow - not like the powdery stuff before. Still forecast for rain so dunno how long lived this will be - if it goes on overnight as per the forecast for rain we'll have another few inches in the morning.

We're pretty much snowed in now. Most of the roads are blocked with either snowdrifts or cars and lorries stuck in the snow.

All over here in the south east I think. Temperatures due to rise tomorrow, although I guess it will take a couple of days to thaw...still quite thick on the ground (and compacted to ice on the roads).
