Quiet again in Surrey but the friend down the road that had his house roof relocated onto his car just had his insurance company tell him its not covered. In the small print they said he has to have his roof instpected every 10 years and a written report produced.

It's probably worth your friend pursuing that further. Insurers are not generally allowed to get out of paying up on the basis of small print unless they can prove it contributed to the damage being claimed for.

Yes agree. I have advised him to read the policy and make a complaint regardless. If knocked back then go to the insurance ombudsman.

Had a power cut for 9 hours...and one of the legs on my garden archway has snapped. Neighbours fence has come pretty loose and was moving about. Irritating all in all but not the end of the world.

Finally heard from mother in the bristol channel area i.e. the eye of the strom the powers been out most of the day no phone or internet, fence down and no Asda food delivery! Shes ok though just grumbling about the cost of fixing the fencing, wonder if the house insurance will cover it.

Must have been some gust and the angle to get the passenger really unlucky

Gordon Kaye who played Rene in 'Allo 'Allo had a flying piece of wood went through the windscreen of a car and hit him in the head which had to be extracted from his skull and you'll notice in the later series he has a dent in his head and an eye affected, he survived that but it happens. That happened in a similar storm many years ago I remember reading about that when it happened in the paper.

That, I believe, happened during the infamous michael fish storm.

We seem to have got away with surprisingly little damage in my immediate area, neighbours fence somehow stayed standing albeit it is leaning at a crazy angle. One of our patio tables, pretty solid metal and glass thing, decided to leap into the air and plant itself in the ground top first leaving smashed glass everywhere and a lamp fell off one of our gate posts.

North and South of us they had all sorts, trees down, power cuts, etc. but aside from some small debris in the road and the odd larger branch that had already been moved to the side nothing of note on my travels.

I don't remember much of the 87 storm itself but I remember the aftermath - at least around here it wasn't even close to 87 - maybe half a dozen trees down total, in 87 was half a dozen down in just one small area, loads of roofs gone, etc.

Hardly anything here on the Kent Surrey border. 1 tree fell but that's it.

In 1987 we weren't over in the UK but I remember family talking about it when we visited and remember it being on the news. From what I can see so far this storm despite being higher winds seems to have been less devastating.

Not seen much action here in Dover, heard something fall over in the garden but didn't see what it was.

Edit: It was the bird table.
