Surrey - sun out. warm and little to only small wind/gusts.

Newly built pond survived - awesome. Fences intact - bonus. Relieved a little.

Same here, one side, with the cheaper panels are RIP. Otherside which is better stuff, no issues.

Put an order in to replace that side with better stuff, 10 minutes ago.

Had a couple of different guys over today to look at things. On the closeboard fence, two posts broke and the others shifted in the ground, they managed to prop it up until a repair can be made.

The fence between us and next door has come down in back. The way the neighbor is acting I think they're presuming it's our fence when it's shared.
It's rather it be replaced with a block wall and render it, hate hate wooden fence panels, they're almost not fit for purpose.
Chop the damaged ones up and bit them in the bin as soon as the weather calms down im in no rush.

Got hail? Now got wind, rain, hail and gusts. Like round two but not quite as strong.

Edit: and now bright sun..

Quiet again in Surrey but the friend down the road that had his house roof relocated onto his car just had his insurance company tell him its not covered. In the small print they said he has to have his roof instpected every 10 years and a written report produced.

Picked up one of the branches from the road, moved next doors fence panel into a safer location and took back a neighbours food bin from halfway down the road. It’s calmed down a lot.

Most importantly, my gazebo gym survived :D

Yup, that sounds like an insurance company. Crazy.

Just had another friend call her insurance company over a downed tree and fence. Nope, fences not covered.

Might be speaking too soon, but seems the worst of it has passed here in Warrington. Felt a bit anticlimactic considering the amount of coverage and warnings we got - definitely been worse wind here in the past year. Still I had definitely spoken too soon earlier when I said there was hardly any wind at all, because it did start gusting a lot more from 1pm onwards. So far effects seem to be:
  • A bit of flooding in the usual spots (under an old railway bridge, and a park near the river).
  • Lorry on the m56 been blown over.
  • A couple of trees fallen down (one of which seems to have been pulled down by a derelict canal boat which was tied to it after blowing away a few days ago).
  • Some power cuts in small town near Warrington.
  • Trains on the WCML cancelled
  • The awning on a Chinese restaurant got damaged

Looks like Scotland and hilly areas elsewhere have actually had a lot of snow as forecast.

It seemed to change rapidly due to the close proximity of the isobars. Calm, bit of wind and then gusts kick up.
Yeah it did start to get more gusty soon after I posted actually, so think it just hit a bit later than the forecast said.
I thought the same until within the space of 5 minutes our neighbours fencing and tree was wiped out.
 Luckily it seems there's not been much damage round here, but it did pick up quite suddenly so yeah also had a 'that escalated quickly' feeling here. Didn't ever look or sound that bad outside here though - definitely had worse wind on the past year.
Windy is showing that you won't see higher speeds until around 2-4pm. The wind speeds aren't that high, but the gusts may be: https://www.windy.com/?53.808,-3.238,9
Thanks for that link, forecast on that was more accurate than the bbc or met office ones I'd looked at.

Just done a short 20min drive around. Plenty of damage around; trees & branches, fences and walls, along with bits of roof and other debris.

No wind or gales here in the Highlands, plenty of snow just south of Inverness though. I think they shut the A9 snow gates further south too.

Not my pic -

Sigh. I've read my insurance documents and don't remember reading anything like that. And we are perhaps rather recklessly paying the bare minimum for our home insurance. Might be time for me to re-read the small print..

Seems unlikely that there would be specific requirements, but there is normally a generic "good state of repair" clause to prevent you replacing an old roof for new unnecessarily
