Winter 2022/23 - It's too cold :(

Been out all morning re staking, tying a load of trees we planted down the fields. Gorgeous day, lovely in the sun.
Walking back for some lunch and then back down the fields to do a bit of wandering about and work to pass the time.

Still bitterly cold here even when the sun is out and -4C forecast against overnight, though the last day of sub-zero overnight according to the BBC forecast.

The weather models going forward are interesting - very messy output with nothing beyond the next 3 days or so in any way certain - interestingly the model ensembles seem to be trying to resist some quite distinct signals for cold to very cold for want of a better way to describe it - the high pressure setup is definitely going to make it difficult for any actual mild breakthrough for awhile though.

We haven't had sub-zero since Sat/Sun overnight and the daytime temp has been rising since. This morning I was awoken by a substantial morning chorus for the first time since Autumn, and it was 8c. The birds seem to think the worst is over here in North Lancs. Snowdrops have been up for two weeks already.

Curiously they've changed Friday night to -2C here, after temperatures were forecast to be 2+C over night from here on out for awhile. Though back to 3C overnight on Saturday and 6C from there... but I've a feeling we've not seen the end of the cold.

They get it wrong so often, used to seeing it in the summer when the predicted storms never turn up, but now seeing it in winter when I am paying more attention to forecasts vs actual weather.

Today looks amazing, clear blue sky but nowhere near a frost, shame I am working but at least I get an hour of sunny tea breaks and my last day, looking forward to my plants waking up again
Edit..weird but some here park in the shade then start the car to get warm at tea breaks ( the canteen is small but has a toilet In there, no way I would eat there)

Very quiet here (Rock) almost no breeze, a little sun, got my board in the car when I am back at Polzeath but looks a little small so back tomorrow maybe, had a light frost but that's it
