Winter 2024/25 - Cold or Mild? Rain or Snow?

Opened the curtains and saw snow.
Went to front window and saw it was a Mr Whippy on it's side.

Actually it's settled on roofs-grass and greenhouse but road and footpaths are clear.
We haven't seen snow like this for a good few years.

Must be OK as delivery man has just arrived over the road.
:)

Looked out the window this morning around 4ish and could see some snow had settled and was still snowing.

Roads were ok this morning when taking the Mrs to work.

Arrived at my work place and there was hardly any snow. Really starting to come down now, I'm hoping it sticks.

Before I go all "old man yells at cloud" - to the people on here in areas that have their schools closed, is it really that bad or is it just the usual overly dramatic pish?

One think you can guarantee to hear on the radio first thing in the morning when there is a bit of snow, is schools and railways closed lol

I could see 4 schools were closed by us, but my sons school remained open.
Small roads, which haven't been gritted are still covered in a little snow but all of the busier roads are completely clear and fine to drive on.

I see no reason to close schools here for travel reasons, only if there is a heating issue.

I had thought as much... It appears people have forgotten what the weather is going to be like in late Autumn and going into Winter and just panic when a little poor weather happens.

I despair for UK civilisation if a proper weather event happens - it'll be shouts for Government intervention no doubt rather than self-reliance.

Gorden Bennet !!!!

We had to walk or take bus to school snow or not.
The first thing we did in playground was all walk in a line to pack the snow down as it was sure to freeze overnight so we had a slide across the playground next morning..
There was a few broken bones and cuts and grazes but it was never banned. We were harder then.:)
