Winter 2024/25 - Cold or Mild? Rain or Snow?

It's 4.6 degrees C here but with a strong wind so the windchill makes it feel like zero. It's been chucking it down with rain since the middle of the night but the thing that really get's me is that it is so dark. Doing our lunch at 12.30 I had to put the kitchen light on so I could see what I was doing. We are used to being overcast here but this on a whole different level.

Lots of talk about us going into the freezer next week 1st/2nd onwards... Will see!

Must say this cloudy/damp skies has been going on for weeks. Very similar to 1991!

Subsequent runs from almost all the different models for now are trending more towards cold or very cold weather rather than backing off, but still time yet :s

Unfortunately beyond my skills to interpret but looks like there is quite a bit off polar vortex disruption forecast with potential for a SSW event as well.

However the jet isn't playing ball and in recent winters no matter how well it looks like everything else comes together if the jet isn't playing ball it doesn't seem to come off.

Still most models leaning into the wintery scenarios, though I'd caveat that with that this time of year there is reduced data gathering, etc. due to the time of year and so accuracy does suffer a bit, which often results in output biasing towards the seasonal averages.

It's quite mild really lightish cloud, heading from New Polzeath to Padstow ( ferry involved) then carry on from there, hoping for some sun glimpses

Yellow warning for snow for the 4th to the 6th across almost the whole UK - though the models aren't supporting it currently though there is a large degree of uncertainty where certain weather systems will end up so it is possible.

EDIT: Though anywhere which does get snow off the band of rain moving over will probably get quite a bit, on high ground even exceptional amounts, of snow probably why the warnings, but so far doesn't look like much to get excited about for most.
