Winter 2024/25 - Cold or Mild? Rain or Snow?

Ive got a leak in the roof, not sure what the issue is yet, going to try and get up there myself sometime this week if I can get some ladders and stuff. Helped a chap for about 2 months doing some roofing about 15 years ago but that was proper slate not whatever we have. Think its round the fake chimney.

Ours was originally french slate, got re roofed about a year before we bought it.

A guy at the pub on Friday made me laugh. He said when they had Storm Bert they should have skipped C and D to go straight to Storm Ernie.

Well storm Darragh sucked, I was without electricity for 3 and a half days.

Fridge and two freezers ruined, including a £30 Xmas Turkey.

Just trying to work out what I can claim from the National Grid now, I have tried phoning them many times and its near impossible to get through to them.

Not sure how/who you claim from, but the CAB site states

If an unplanned power cut was caused by bad weather​

You’ll get £85 if the power was off for 24 hours. If it was a severe storm, you’ll get £85 if the power was off for 48 hours.


You’ll get £40 for each extra 6 hours where you don’t have electricity - up to a maximum of £2,000.

People still without grid power here in Mid Wales, most seem more bothered by no mobile signal from the masts.
