Winter 2024/25 - Cold or Mild? Rain or Snow?

Did get an alert on my work phone (Vodafone), didn't on my personal phone (Lebara (runs on Vodafone)).
Just got my alert though on my own phone

Edit, actually, make that 2 alerts in 2 mins.

Bit blowy overnight in Hampshire, didn't sleep great, but all good otherwise.

Family who returned to Edinburgh last week might be regretting their return, gusts near 90Kph when I refreshed Weather Undeground app!

Making good use of the wind at least

I always thought that most of those big wind things had to be turned off in strong winds in case they turned into giant shurikens
They'll defintely be off in the middle of the storm - here's and the rest of the N Scotland isn't currently too bad, but of a stiff breeze and actually a bit sunny so not bad weather. As it is, that figure only represents maybe 40% of UK installed wind capacity.

Sounds like things are calming down a little here on the coast near Durham. It's been pretty strong all day but ramped up around midday.

A few fences are down so far, fingers crossed that's it.

If I was up north I’d be tempted to put a small diesel generator in the garage. Wheel it out in situations like this - at least have it for charging things or saving the freezer. In the same place I’d have a coleman stove..

Yeah, the last big storm we had up here Storm Arwyn or whatever it was called left my parents without energy for 4 days (I know of people that were out for a week before they got restored). Won't be surprised if the more remote communities in Galloway and the like will be hit bad by this.

No snow forecast for here thankfully. Forecast is for clear skies until tomorrow afternoon, so it’ll be icy tonight.

Ferocious winds: Wind gusts of 101 mph (162 km/h) were recorded at Drumalbin in South Lanarkshire, Scotland - the highest since records began there in 1991. Scotland's First Minister John Swinney said the storm was "an exceptional weather event"

Scotland got a good blast today aswell a new record

Thankfully settled down a bit now. Still a decent gust or 2 but damn it’s got cold. Not looking forward to replacing 3x8ft fence posts and a couple of ridge tiles tomorrow.
