Winter 2024/25 - Cold or Mild? Rain or Snow?

Still blowing 'a hoolie' up here. Need to check the roof tiles in daylight, but I'm working day shifts this weekend, so that'll need to wait til Monday.

Just been outside and heard a metallic squeaking sound. Suspect it's my log burner flue. Again, that'll need to wait til Monday.

The (communal) fence at the rear of my house is trashed, so that'll be down to the Factor to sort.

I now have 6+ loose fenceposts on my own fences. They can wait til spring for me to sort.

The storm we had two or three years ago which flattened loads of woodland locally, was an amber warning and the winds were so much stronger. Like I could feel the house move during the gusts. There was a red area slightly further north though.

So far, we appear to have gotten off quite lightly *touches wood*.

Some pretty bad flooding around here today in Somerset, few villages cut off, Chard is a disaster zone.

More rain forecast on the way as well.

How's everyone doing? There have been power outages in Northern Ireland, but thankfully, I've managed to avoid them, apart from a brief, 5-minute outage today. It's been awful weather, with another storm rolling in with wind and rain.

power cut today Cambs .... well curiously some of the led bulbs were still working and a meter put across an opened plug showed 100V;
resonable text update service provided by national power , turned off the fridges and electronics in case there were going to be any spikes before all clear issued

e: crazy that the gas combi obviously of no use whilst electric is off

I installed a weather station over Christmas and was looking forward to the next weather event to allow me to collect some meaningful data. I didn't expect it to be anything like this though.

I was right on the edge of an amber alert area and it was still pretty strong. In my local area there were lots of branches strewn across the roads, a few council bins got uprooted and I lost a couple of fence panels. A few miles away in the next town there were a few downed trees and a toppled HGV.

A mate of mine lives near Enniskillen and he lost power at about 3AM on Friday morning. He was originally given an estimate of the 30th Jan to get it back on but he's just messaged to say it's come back on now so they must be working overtime to get things sorted.

Post on X from NIE, this is quite a bit of destruction

Quite a bit of hail today, any rain coming down on already saturated ground so hoping it doesn't resume the flooding from yesterday which has started to go down.

Another wet cold and miserable day.

EDIT: Lots of lightning coming in south of me - could hear something but wasn't sure if it was heavy machinery on the farm or thunder.

Hopefully we can develop HP over the UK next week but I fear it will be supressed by LP forming south west of Iceland
