I personally think Ned deserved to die for being such a fool.

Not a fool as such he just has Principles and Honour, Not always a good thing except to ones self..

Been told i suffer from it myself a few times over the years. Done time in one Her Majesty's Hotels for something I didn't personaly do when i was younger rather than hand a mate in..

And lost a job because I wouldn't explain another persons involment in a incident at work even though he buried me with statements against me ..

Miss's went mad about the job one but I'd have found it hard to think ok about myself if i'd gone against my princibles in that situation..

Neds a hero in my book certainly not a fool.. ;)

I know, it was the rest of his post that was confusing. EIther way why watch it with his parents... he should download them something else and watch Game of Thrones himself as it is meant to be watched.

I'll jizz to it on my own. Was recommended by a friend to check it out, but didn't mention the content so I was just checking here. I was hoping to find a good series that I could watch with the parents since obviously they think I'm ignoring them (I am, TV is usually boring).

Surely of all the stuff you could have picked there are tons of family friendly stuff without all the blood and nudity of Game of Thrones... :p

Book 4 was a tedious read simply because the fan favourites weren't dealt with at all. That's apparently been addressed now with "A Dance With Dragons" which will be out in a few weeks time.

It's more complicated than that. Originally Martin intended there to be a five year gap in chronology between the end of book three and what was to be book four. He would take up the story and do just a little back-story filling. When the fans heard this, there was an outcry. Martin agreed to write a book which would cover those five years. It turned out one book wasn't enough, so it became two: Crows and Dragons. So if you don't like book four (and if he's killed off the person who appears to die at the end of book four, I and many others will be very angry) then blame the fans: without them it would never have existed and the series would be nearly finished. As it is Martin reckons at least two more after Dragons, and there's a strong suspicion that he means three. Or four.

Let's be honest, GRRM isn't going to finish the series is he? :( In some ways that might be a fitting ending, leave the reader/viewer to guess what happens - a bit like The Sopranos ending.

Reckon they'd do what happened with WOT if GRRM died before he finished it. Difference I guess is that i think GRRMs writing is a class above, Jordan was always more about the story and his female characters in particular are poor and Sanderson has done an excellent job of realising his story since he took over.

Well said.

As much as I loved WoT when I started reading it whilst in high school, it's pretty pap. Sanderson's writing has revitalised my interest in it somewhat.

Having now got to around page 130 of the book, to the point where Joffrey was attacked by Ayras wolf for attacking the butchers boy, I am sooo glad that I watched the series first, as I now have a mental image of every character in the book, and that dramatically improves the reading experience as your mind doesn't have to work to produce all of the images itself. It gives you a foundation for your imagination to build on. Fantastic book, and so far the TV series has been very true to it... I can't put it down.

I can understand that to a point, but I prefer to read the book first and imagine the characters myself, typically when I'm reading a book I'm also seeing in my head everything being played out with faces and bodies for everyone. Also TV conversions can be quite limiting, in the book I'm sure it mentions that Gregor Clegane is meant to be over 8 foot tall, he's certainly not that large in the TV show, likewise Khal Drogo.

As I said, it provides a foundation, the rest you fill in yourself. If you're a long-time reader and into your material when you read it then it shouldn't be too hard. ;)

I also prefer reading books first and having my own image of everything.

Indeed. For years, I had only ever seen the film Dune. Then I read the book after getting my Kindle and it. was. EPIC. However, I kept seeing Kyle MacLachlan in my head as Paul Atreides which kind of spoilt it.

As it is, I hate seeing films or programs before reading the books. I've read all four currently available Song of Ice & Fire books because of this thread. I thought to myself "woah, there's a lot of GOT talk on the internet and all the threads about it are buzzing, I should read the first book to see what's up" and I did. And I'm so glad I did. Knocked out the four books in no time and eagerly await the next installment. I'm also not watching the series until it's released in it's entirety, so I can sit down with a load of junk food and sit through a megathon back to back binge of it.

Trust me, the actor playing Gregor is a monster!
