Doubt they had the CGI budget for that though.

Kind of boring to keep hearing people say they don't have the budget for CGI, when there is no proof of that.

Supposedly Season 6 is now at $10 million/episode on average (versus $6 million/episode for Season 2), and whilst I'm sure some of that will be to increases for the star cast members, I would expect the increase was to allow more extras, more locations and more effects.

Think it would have been better if the two other dragons flew down as her speech ended and landed either side of Drogon, I mean they were released a few episodes ago it doesn't take that long to fly there surely. Doubt they had the CGI budget for that though.

Whenever I have reread the books I have just skipped all the Daenerys chapters after AGOT.

I think it would have been far better, if at the end of the previous episode where she flung down the burning oil to kill them. Instead they had threatened to kill her and she called out to the dragons to save her/torch the place.

They are cramming it in at the moment, even though the pace feels slower. Still great TV.

Have to say I'm pretty disappointed with Season 6 so far.

Not much action going on, not many battles, character stories moving slowly, no unexpected twists and turns, things you didn't see coming, cliffhangers, just all a bit meh.

I'll still keep watching it to the end...I mean I watched Lost till the end and that show went downhill big time :D

Thing is GoT gets the same criticism every single season at around the midway mark. Then bam, all the payoff happens and it's once again the best thing since sliced bread.

Not really. I still acknowledge it has some slow episodes, but yes, it has some amazing ones. Doesn't really change anything just because the last episode was great. You'd have to have a pretty short memory!

I'm still really enjoying it. I think Netflix, etc has spoiled the way in which I watch TV now... I prefer to binge-watch a few episodes of a show at a time. That way, the peaks and troughs aren't as noticeable to me.

yeah exactly, people were making this dubious 'CGI budget' claim re: killing off the wolves whereas I think the wolves die for a reason - when the relevant Stark child does something wrong/dishonorable and I'm pretty sure shaggy dog/Rickon's Wolf isn't dead but the head presented to Ramsey is fake and part of a plot.

I think with the multiple storyline threads and talk of 'filler episodes' it probably would be more enjoyable for most to watch an entire series of GoT in a marathon session... some people don't like the filler episodes due to the lack of drama/excitement but they are essential for progression the story, giving background information... I don't mind them as I'm now a fan of the books but I will probably re-watch the whole season in one go at some point or at least in chunks of 3-4 episodes

Currently watching from start again, almost finished series 4. I have to say this series is the best since series 1. There isn't that many unexpected twists per series re-watching them and even that many battles. Even in series 1 you only saw aftermath of battles, the wounded.

What didn't you see coming in previous series? The trouble is now it's dissected to pieces and the internet can see most of it coming. I wouldn't have seen Jon Snow coming without 'fan theory' and I doubt many would have seen Jons parentage either.

Yes I am the same, watching it again I am seeing how much I missed the first time going week to week. It works so much better binge watching. The show goes from a 7/10 to a 9/10 when you watch a series in 2 or 3 days.

Very true. I don't know if it has 'spoiled' it for me, just changed it. I like being able to get immersed in a show and watch two or three episodes back to back (essentially giving over as much time as you would to a film).

But that approach only works catching up on older seasons. Much of the time it's a case of waiting for weekly instalments of shows. You can let a few episodes build up unwatched perhaps, but then run the risk of tripping over a spoiler.

I think you're on to something with that idea about the Starks and the honour thing to be honest....and I'm suspicious of the Shaggy Dog head too.

I also pretty much enjoy any TV series more when I binge watch it. Having a slightly foggy memory due to it being a week between episodes (I guess) takes me out of the moment a lot more.

I'm pretty sure shaggy dog/Rickon's Wolf isn't dead but the head presented to Ramsey is fake and part of a plot.

If they wanted to do that, why would they present the real Rickon? Nobody knows what he looks like, as proven by Ramsay himself requiring proof as to his heritage.

Why risk a real Stark heir when they could just use a different boy?

Have they proven it's Rickon? IIRC the only proof it was Rickon was 'Shaggydog's' head. If that's in question, surely the fact that he's Rickon is too?

Question: does anyone really want to swear allegiance to Ramsay Snow (sic)? I think they'd rather do something about him.

It's a weird one the Umbers/Rickon story. If that wasn't Shaggydog's head then Smalljon's actions make no sense. Why would he give Rickon to Ramsay, putting Rickon in harm's way, if he plans to remain loyal to the Starks? It's something he's unlikely to be forgiven for, unless he can guarantee Rickon won't come to any harm (which seems improbable).

The simpler explanation is that the Umbers actually have sided with Ramsay. The timing is interesting - Stannis has just been been defeated, so as far as anyone knows, there is no force left in the North capable of challenging the Boltons. Maybe they'll rejoin the Starks later, after other houses are persuaded to support Jon and his Wildling army? Turning on the Boltons during the Battle and rescuing Rickon would go some way toward redeeming Smalljon's actions.

I'm with you, it seems to have lost its edge. I certainly don't look as forward to watching it as I did in previous seasons. The story seems to be meandering along in most areas. There's barely any shocking moments. Barely any boobs, Jamie and Cersei can only be bothered with a kiss now. Can't believe the Sparrow mess is still going on.

Don't get me wrong though, I am still enjoying it but nowhere near as much as I did.

Someone needs to tell Daenerys that being immune to fire and having pet dragons are not relevant skills when it comes to civil administration and governance.

I certainly wouldn't vote for her.

Perhaps they could do a whole mini series of Daenerys riding through the desert making world-conquering speeches at every village she comes across, or even in the middle of nowhere for no apparent reason, before being reminded that she doesn't have any boats to actually get there, or indeed trees to chop down to build said boats? Oh wait ....

:D.

I love the show, but I am a little bored of the Daenerys ( I hope you spelt that right :p) parts.

Also the Sam and Gilly bits, every time they are on screen its just Gilly talking like she has just woken up from general anaesthetic and Sam being as pathetic as possible. Hope their story gets interesting after the last episode. Which just reminded me I need to google the sword he took, sounded like it might have some history behind it that you'd only get by reading the books.
