Winter tyres

Got some ContiWinterContact TS830's to fit to my car, very well reviewed.

Also have some new Dunlop Winter Sport 4D's waiting to be fitted for my Dad's car, cheap in his size too at £55 a corner (took me by surprise) and also very well reviewed.

They're worth it imo during the colder months, Nov - Feb/March.

Here's the AutoExpress 2011 Winter Tyre test and they compare against some CS3's too!

There's an Evo mag out now with their 2011 Winter tyre test which draw similar conclusions I think, I need to grab a copy.

Another LOLHYPE test I see. They brush over the fact the CS3 stops a car length sooner in the dry - because I guess its pretty true that isn't exactly a huge difference - and then slate it for stopping a car length further than the best winter tyre in the wet? Err?

Yet again it seems to suggest to me that unless you expect significant snowfall or live in a remote area or something, winter tyres are not worth the bother in the UK.

What it does highlight though is that if you ARE going to bother, do it properly and buy high end, quality winter tyres. I see people all over the internet buying cheap junk with a ********* on the side thinking its a good idea..

I wouldn't say it's a 'LOLHYPE' test, yes the CS3 stopped a car length shorter in the dry but that's not exactly surprising is it. I know which tyre I'd rather use during the winter months, it's not that dry after all during this period.

It's wet most of the time and the CS3 was dead last in wet braking and not much better in wet handling. Never mind its snow performance where it was still doing 21mph (from 25mph) whereas the Conti equivalent had come to a complete stop, it didn't even make it to the start of snow handling course!

I agree with you regarding people buying budget winter tyres, no point at all in this country.

Sorry, I couldn't be bothered.

Whilst I'm not normally one for 'LOL USE SEARCH' because its a discussion forum and we are here to discuss, that attitude is pretty crappy isnt it? If you can't be bothered to do that why should anyone be bothered to dedicate time to giving you a response

Because I want up to date information. If I wanted to search for something from 2006 I'd use google.

Andi.

He is talking about threads from last week not 5 years ago.

You wont find much on here from 2006 about winter tyres because 2006 pre-dates the winter tyre fad in the UK :p

Show me then 'cos I don't believe there's anything that answers my question.

If you are still convinced this evening that nobody has asked about which winter tyre to go for, and nobody has discussed whether they are worth it, in the last month, then I'll do a search for you if nobody has else.

There are about 4 threads a week on it at the moment. It's a hot topic.

Is there any point in putting winter tyres on your car? I have the same times on all year round and I've never had any problems

You'll need something similar to above, or come Movember, you will be stranded and have to eat your dog etc...
