So, i woke up today all happy and cheery as its my birthday to find that £700 has been taken out of my paypal account.

I called the bank and they said they cant do anything until it comes up on my statement :S

Filed unauthorised transaction claim on paypal and also called them and they said it will take 10 days to investigate, but the guy on the phone said it should take less time, more like 72hours.

I am panicking! HELPPP

Why would you keep £700 in your PayPal account? Unless it meant very little to you...

Anyway if your account has been compromised then you should find out how (if possible) and change the password to all your other online accounts

i didn't have £700 in my account, my debit card was linked to the paypal account. Ye i have changed all my passwords etc...

just have to wait now :(

The money probably wasn't in the PayPal account, but PayPal took the money from his debit/credit card or bank account.

The chances of you getting your money back are high, especially now that you've got your bank involved as well as PayPal.

EDIT:
Just saw it was a debit card the money was taken from. Is it a Visa Debit card? If so then you'll probably be covered by the Visa Chargeback scheme as well.

I assume that given he's mentioned he went to his bank that his bank card/account is attached to his paypal so if there's not enough in the paypal fund it debits directly from the bank account

shall i just sit and wait now? or would you guys suggest anything else i can do?

anyone had similar experiences?

what a great birthday

ONE MILLION TRILLION TIMES THIS!

I use this now for PayPal and I've had no issues. I had £1,000 or so taken from me before! They tested it first with 10p here and 10p there. The bank can't do anything really apart from cancel your card. A PayPal dispute will have to take place.

ye i will get this for sure once this issue is resolved, i can't believe this happened

What did they buy/where did they spend it? I would run an extremely thorough virus scan and consider changing all your passwords.

Beyond that hopefully PayPal will refund the money otherwise your bank should have you covered but it may take a few weeks to resolve.

Happy Birthday btw :)

You'll get it back, don't worry. Your bank is involved and that'll stop Paypal being lazy, but to be honest Paypal are very good with this sort of stuff.

These are no longer available from Land Rover and have been unavailable new for a number of years. Recently due to the resurgence in values of the early Range Rovers values of these badges when they rarely become available have exceeded £500 GBP.

I'd be scouring eBay or Land Rover communities looking for culprits hocking said badges.
