Woo-hoo, the clocks go back to GMT this weekend!

Does anyone actually honestly prefer the winter over the summer?

I even get people not liking the heat. I understand that. (I mean they are wrong.. But hey)
What I can't get is anyone wanting darker evenings.

Like others have said its unhealthy. Why it's a thing I will never know. I'd rather it flipped other way.
GMT+2 all year round. That would be amazing.

I think we should stay on BST for the winter and then move to double BST in the summer for even lighter evenings so we can all sit out after work even more!

It would make working with Europe easier.
It would mean you could do so much in the evening.. For longer into the year.

Anyone who doesn't like it? There are curtains.

I may even vote for the tories if it mean +2 all year.. I'm not even joking. It would give me so so much more time.

If the North of Scotland wants a different time zone, why can it not have one?

In the South, the earlier sun makes a difference for about 4 weeks then it's darker than it was already. But now it is also dark at 4PM.

The bit I find the hardest is January and February.
For me it's actually November till January.
After that you can feel spring on the way and I start to get excited for the summer.

I tend to book a holiday for January/Feb to break up the depressing UK light/climate.

Get woken up by my cat on the dot at 7am as he's clearly starving and is going to die if I don't get up and feed him right then.

Guess that's happening at 6am for awhile....sigh

100% this, I look forward to the winter solstice more than xmas/new years, once the daylight hours start increasing it's an instant mood lift for me.

Just ask your boss if you can start 2 hours earlier?

Time is but a number, and with flexi working now-a-days if you want to take advantage of some light at the end of your day you are the master of your own destiny.

The amount of fuss and confusion block switching causes - has anybody seen any sort of study for how much it costs in terms of business? Additional time sorting rotas / payroll etc, additional development time on systems that deal with times, all the service desk calls globally caused by this. When in fact all we need to do is choose to get out of bed earlier….

One thing I don’t understand is how my timer for hot water and heating knows which Sundays the clocks change as done automatically. Been through all the different displays and can’t find a date! Plus the immersion heater. Got a heat source pump but water only heats to 62c. Have the IH on for 20 mins a day (minimum time) to top water to 65c as legionella kills at 64c.

On the subject of heat source pumps, which the govt want most of us to have- hopefully they will get more engineers. As have a two yearly service and very few engineers that do this. Mitsubishi- the manufacturers of the hsp won’t touch the internal parts that doesn’t have their name on. Think for every 200 gas engineers, there’s just one heat source pump engineer. That’s in my area, unsure about other areas.

Doesn't legionnaires die at 60 degrees?

HSE advise a minimum temp of regular 60 degrees heat cycle to kill legionnaire bacteria.

Cooling towers are designed to operate at 60 degrees for this reason as they create and blow steam which can rapidly spread legionnaires for miles around.
