Failed miserably today 
My first 3 words had no letters and then it was downhill from there!
I start with HOUSE or IRATE
No strategy words? I start with PAEON then go with SUITE and then CRYPT if necessary.
Those aren't the best since the E, P and the T are reused, but they'll do for now. All vowels + a Y and some common consonants.

I find it really helps when my first word has no letters. Really narrows down the choices

However, not 'genius', simply systematic and a bit of luck..

I'm tweaking an algorithm to do this programmatically, it got it in 5, but could have been 4, the main issue is working out which source/dictionary they are using, I've just preloaded it from online sources to give me all 5 letter words and with a bit of refinement it's been successful all week!
However, not 'genius', simply systematic and a bit of luck..

I didn’t get todays, and get this, I had everything apart from the 4th letter on my third effort! Too many wines last night.

in these cases, ignore all your green letters and use new words with lots of unused letters. You can then eliminate lots of choices
