World Cup 2010 - Final (Sunday 11th July 2010) **spoilers**

LOL yeh a dirty tackling cheating legend;)

I do enjoy watchin him play i feel so sorry for him losing the champion league final and then the world cup but hey he did the double with bayern.

I hope he plays in the euros in 2012 i believe he be around 35 so there a chance as van bronckhorst was 35. Lets hope he doesn't lose his sporting touch and great gamesmanship ;)

And what made it worse was the biggest cheat in the final scored the winner.

LOL sorry as much as i agree with your point about Fabregas i just cannot believe you actually think Iniesta was the biggest cheat on the pitch...id give that award to Robben and Van Bommel....one who likes/loves to dive at every opportunity and the other who is just a plain dangerous and nasty tackler. Bad sportsmanship was shown by the Dutch at one point where the dutch player, cant remember who it was that instead of kicking the ball out he decided to kick upfield so it went out near the corner post....very poor showing by the Dutch imo.

Its funny how every single pundit more or less said the Spanish deserved to win the game whereas if the Dutch had won it would have been a victory for dangerous, cynical and malicious football. And on here we have a few people saying that the Dutch deserved to win it.

I'll also add this too that its ok to slate the Spanish for diving or going down easily but yet plenty of other teams including the Dutch do exactly the same but no one bats an eyelid.

Thankfully the right team, the one who played the right sort of football won.

Spain deserved to win. Absolutely no question about that. I knew Spain just had a little too much for Holland to cope with. But as a football match, both sides were poor, both teams diving at every given opportunity, Holland lucky not to be down to at least 10 men by half time. A game that wasn't under control by Webb, Spain seemed to get a lot of the 50/50 decisions and if a Spanish player went down it was an instant freekick. The refereeing was inconsistent. The diving and feigning injury was consistent for Spain in this world cup. I wouldn't have cared if the match was called off and nobody won it, I was that disinterested in it by the end.

I've slated them all for diving. This world cup has been utter turd. :p

The 'right sort of football' was boring. :p Effective to achieve the four wins (all 1-0) needed after the group stage to win the world cup, but an utter disappointment as a spectacle and entertainment.

Yeah that was Van Bommel who kicked it out for a throw in a dangerous area.

He is just a cheating **** and if the commentator was right Im glad that was his last match ever.

Anyone watching Eurosport right now? Theres a victory parade going on for spain. Its live too.

Right now they're just going around Madrid in their bus signing shirts. Exciting stuff.

Its on till 7:35pm.

If they applied the rules 100% the match would have been over i think before the 90 minutes is up with Holland getting too many men sent off. Or it would have ended up 10 v 7 men with Spain winning the match with a cricket score.

If they could enforce rules 100% without doubt and without argument, you can bet that players behaviour would change pretty sharply.

i still stick by that his a good player and so do my so call school friends maybe somebody got a grudge with him;), he played the game, yes made some bad tackles but i sure i saw Iniesta kick out at a dutch player and didnt even get a card

I didn't see RvP running about telling his players to calm down :p

Football has been like this ever since I can remember, you have your pretty teams and you have your hatchet teams, some can do both ;)

In short, man up you pussies!

It was more the sheer hypocrisy of a lot of fans, pundits etc. at The Netherlands' behaviour last night. Those same ones have for years enjoyed the 'getting in Arsenal's faces' / Sam Allerdyce approach to 'football'.

And to be fair, had Spain played a Netherlands side like that for 2/3 of a domestic season, game after game, their injury record would probably match ours.

I still am fairly curious as to peoples' thoughts on this.

Maybe there's a certain amount of recognition of the disparity in talent levels available between say Stoke and Arsenal - this is not meant as disrespect to Stoke but they're not the first team that comes to mind when someone suggests a good technical team. You'd struggle to suggest that Holland don't have good technical players which is what makes the fouling a little more difficult to understand.

Some bad tackles? It might be easier to highlight the good tackles he made - that's a bit of an exaggeration but it's nothing short of a minor miracle that he didn't get a single yellow card this World Cup until the semi-final stage. You can politely call him "robust tackling" or "committed" but in his case it's just a euphemism for being a dirty player - the annoying thing is that he's fairly skilful player when he chooses not to just crunch someone.

Utterly LOLworthy...i havent got a grudge with him lol...i just loathe the way hes been getting away with some downright dangerous malicious tackling...hes been doing it all through the WC and its a shame that no ref had the balls to send the guy off regardless if he is a good footballer or not..some bad tackles??..come on all i ever saw him do is hack people down with no attempt to get the ball...perhaps he should go to some sort of tackling school because he most definitely needs to work on his tackling skills.

Commendable that you stick with your opinion that hes a good player....no one else has even said the same about him ie being a good player.

Villa also had a useless game, should he have been sent off for the sake of it?

The fact is if Webb had given RVP an early yellow and sent off De Jong as he without question should have, the dutch would have made less tackles, but the Spanish(iniesta in particular) would have still dived.

BOTH Heitinga's cards were pathetic, the first wasn't a freekick, I've never, EVER seen a ref play no advantage, give no freekick, wait for a player to kick the ball out, then go and yellow card a player a minute or two later. It should be noted that it was a clear dive with no contact to make him go down, and that he was down for a couple minutes and was up the very second the yellow came out.

Don't forget that in a justified world, Iniesta would have picked up a half dozen yellows throughout the tournament for diving, he's done it more than any single player in the tournament, he's been the biggest cheat in the tournament

I can't remember Villa making a wreckless challenge.

Yes, he should have booked Van Persie to set a message to the players that he won't take any crap.

Did you not see the tackle on Iniesta by Van Bommel before the De Jong tackle ? If he sen't off Van Bommel no way would De Jong have made that expert karate kick.

You can't raise your hand/s like that to an opponent, Heitingas second yellow was justified, did he forget he was booked.

Iniesta did go down a few times easy including the the one for Heitingas second yellow. But no wonder after that assault by Van Bommel in the first half, he was a nervous wreck after that ...

Can you prove the stat to back up your Iniesta claim ?

The other 2.5m are all away on holiday? ;)

Probably or having an extremely long siesta:p

Just been reading what the Dutch manager has been saying about the final last night...went as far as to imply that Webb was biased towards the Spanish because he reffed the first game and probably felt guilty that the Swiss won...again dont know if its 110% true but if he has said that then shame on him...typical bad sportsmanship from the Dutch as per usual....just cant handle the fact that no matter what they did ie cynical challenges...his team were not any better than the Spanish.

The reason for calling Van Bommell a good solid player is of his presence in both holland and Bayern Munich. In any tournament you always need a bit of good fortune but of course you cant always rely on luck to win you the world cup. Van Bommel role helps players such as robben sneijder to play there game. Lets not forget that the holding midfield role is potential easy part of the pitch where desperate tackles are made and picking up cards is easy. Taking Van Bommell out of that position will seriously weaken the team. I not denying he should have picked up more cards in the tournament but the refs didnt give them so you just gotta move on just like the england goal wasnt given you just gotta except it. I agree he played dirty and got away with it. Lets not forget about the shirt pulling when every free kick ,corner is taken in the box as soon as the ref stops it and he goes back it starts again. Van Bommell used his rough tactics and it worked for most of the game. Of course thats my opinion saying that his a good player some will agree and some will disagree.

You will be waiting a long time if he ever does shows stats backing up his claim...i find DM's posts hilarious at times...its like hes watched a completely different game to the rest of us....does it when Arsenal play too lol.

Well i havent read many people in here saying hes a good player...out of all the dutch players he was by far the most dirtiest in the WC. But yes he was extremely fortunate that he wasnt sent off last night and in some of the previous games for his malicious tackling...he got his yellow then quite rightly backed off as he knew he couldnt afford to make anymore bad tackles...quite brave of the dutch manager keeping him on because i would have subbed him off...shame really as i had a few quid on him to get sent off:p.

I suppose you will be saying next that De Jong didnt deserve that yellow for that karate kick on Alonso...i mean its one thing putting players off their game but its another when you set out to intentionally hurt them.

Personally i dont think intentionally trying to kill your opponent makes you a decent player...it in fact makes you one of the worst and its no wonder Iniesta played it to his advantage...any other player would have done the same whether you agree or not.

But seriously so far your the only one who think hes any good...i dont think hes all that...he needs to improve his tackling for one.

Now that's all over I hope we don't forget to allow Football Stadium access back to those who had it removed for a couple of weeks...

Of course De Jong should have been sent off it was a dreadful tackle. Being the world cup final i sure theres a lot of tension within all the players. As before i stated i wanted Holland to win but overall spain were worthy winners. Van Bommel knew what he was exactly doing i'm just putting the point across that he along with the rest of the team worked hard to get to the final and they deserve to be there. a lot of people saying they were boring but i say they were effective and hardworking . They were a good team with good player.

More than 20 million British viewers tuned in to the World Cup final, with the BBC drawing more viewers than ITV.

On BBC1, viewers watching Spain's clash with the Netherlands peaked at 17.9 million, with a 60% share of the audience, figures show.

On ITV, which was also showing the final, figures peaked at 3.8 million, a 13% share of the audience.

Spain scored four minutes before the end of extra time to win 1-0.

The game averaged 15.1 million (a 54% share of viewers) on BBC1 and 3.3 million (12%) on ITV1.

Suck it ITV :D
