I felt sad. I feared this would happen, that the side would sit back and faff the ball about after going 1-0 up, and that kinda happened. The Italia 1990 England (imo the best I've ever seen in my lifetime) squad could have slaughtered this lot

I only saw the last 10mins of the England match, but were they resorting to hoofing it up field when Crouch was on again?

Something about watching England really turns me off. I can't say i'm the die hard England fan, even though I am English.

Let's everyone calm down. We lost because of a freak mistake and it was basically their only shot all game. We were definitely the better side, created quite a few chances and would have won most days. I'm not saying we played brilliantly but we deserved to win. Algeria and slovenia will be easier than the US.

From the match I would say lennon and johnson played well. Rooney is still roaming far too much, he needs to stay in the box/off the other striker more. We saw the best and worst of heskey. I have no idea why swp was playing and that was a clear mistake - next match we should see j cole or gerrard on the left (gerrard more likely). The king injury is worrying as I'm really not convinced by carragher - time to try out dawson? Overall it's not a disaster, we always knew the US would be tough and we should have won, but we didn't play that badly and should still get through to the knock-out stage.

So lets see, what did we know BEFORE Capello joined and then before the world cup, we need a keeper, established and not thinking "if I make a single mistake I'll never play for this manager again", King will never ever last, Milner's 7 whole goals in the league of which a few were penalties, is being completely overblown just because he's English.

Gerrard and Lampard can't play together, Heskey is utter crap, Johnson can't defend, Caragher attacks people and can't actually play football, SWP doesn't know what to do with the ball, Lennon's got a stupid haircut, we need an ACTUAL defensive midfielder.

Now lets list what Capello fixed.........................

Now lets see what were the main problems in that game, Milner was utterly useless and whose only contribution was deserving to have gotten a second yellow but instead got subbed to prevent his next tackle getting him sent off, and we were worried about Rooney. Caragher's first real impression on the game was a studs in challenge on an ankle, woefully late and 3-4 inches below getting sent straight off.

SWP was useless, Lennon wasn't good, Rooney got no service with Heskey being completley inept. Johnson couldn't defend, King couldn't last a game, the keeper looked incredibly nervous and made a huge mistake and Gerrard and Lampard sucked as a partnership.

Hmm, wow, fantastic difference Capello has made and absolutely nothing that went wrong tonight was predictable in any way whatsoever.

We all have also known for years that ITV are without question completely incapable of being trusted with football coverage and not least should NEVER, EVER get a big game ever again.

Things we could have fixed easily, put an established goalkeeper in TWO YEARS AGO, NOT play Gerrard, not take a short midget with no talent to the world cup, take Ashley young, the most consistant winger we have whose been superb for 4 years now topping the assist charts from the wing most seasons, pace, strength, isn't a midget works incredibly hard defensively, excellent corner/freekick taking. Find a right back who can DEFEND, if you're going to play a right winger as a right back, why not just play the best right winger possible anyway. Don't ever take someone whose chronically injured and hasn't realistically managed more than 2 games in a row in 2 years, thats King and Rio who both were massive risks, Rio should have been taken as back up, King shouldn't ever have been called up, ever.

Parker, for the love of god, Parker, we need someone with bite, who reads the game defensively and can kick another team off the park if thats our only choice left.

Another new manager, yet all the exact same mistakes, we've not improve one little bit at all, we should still get through, lets be honest, Algeria and Slovenia is it?

But it will take a miracle to get beyond any half decent team, and France wouldn't count in the slightest.

No, this is part of the problem. Too many people think a) England are better than they really are and b) that it's better to win than play well.

I'm sorry, but I disagree with both. England were not the better team tonight, a draw was a fair result.

Let's not worry about the fact that we didn't win. Let's worry about the fact that we aren't playing well...

Utterly disappointed with the performance this evening. A poor team picked from a poor squad, and a bad formation played with bad substitutions. USA area decent team but England were just poor. I'm sure they'll get through but playing like they did this evening, they stand no chance against Argentina/Brazil/Spain/Holland/Italy/Germany/Portugal.
The reason Rooney is roaming is because he is getting no decent service. We need a solid holding midfielder to break up their attacks and allow Gerrard/Lampard more freedom in creating attacking chances.

Good god, you're pessimistic! I can't even be bothered to go into how wrong you are with some (not all, I admit) points.

One of them I will say: Johnson played damn well tonight!

For me it was a very poor performance from England. We were constantly pumping the balls into Heskey, yet our plan B was pump balls into Crouchinio:s

We were lethargic and did very little on the ball. Some good runs from Johnson but every time he hit the back post, it was crying for the front post and vice versa.

Gerrard despite his goal did little to contribute to the tempo of the game. Before the OcUK scouse mafia start, I am not having a go at his goal, more to his contribution ala 90mins.

Blame Green all you want for his rick but we had many more chances to score.

Very disappointing really when you consider the that the US could easily have had points pushed despite our purchase

What got me is even the wife was screaming at the TV about the massive holes in the pitch where the England midfield should have been, not to mention Lennon spending most of his time waving his arms in the air for passes that never came.

He really must kick this lot into shape and dare to change it up dump the ever present failures and play a system and players in their places and if THAT still does not make a difference nothing will.

No he didn't, he's a defender, going forward is secondary, defensively he was as useless as ever. THink back to their best chances, like Altidore doing the on a yellow card Caragher, where was Johnson there, clearly shedloads faster than Caragher, and they were out WIDE they came in at the edge of the box, Johnson being caught out of position AGAIN meant Caragher had the option of a foul and being red carded or letting him go, we're lucky Green pulled of an absolutely world class save(with a lot of luck aswell) to deny him.

Had Johnson been where he was supposed to be he could quite easilly have offered cover or should he need to, give away the foul and take a yellow.

But as per every single game I've ever seen him play, his defensive positional play was beyond terrible, oooo, he almost scored a goal....... well not really he went around a couple people quite well and put a rather tame shot in, but we need him to defend. Cole is fantastic defensively and I don't mind him getting forward, he understands how to get back and where to go if a centre back comes across to cover his position, Johnson never, ever gets back or moves in to cover properly for instance when Caragher was dragged quite wide.

This is ignoring the fact the massive majority of his "good work" was finished off with a cross deeper than the box or behind the goal. Running a bit and getting into the corner is NOT hard, its what you do there. SWP got the ball and ran into the corner multiple times, his delivery though was terrible.

I agree with DM over some of his points, Capello for me has always been overhyped for me, beating bad sides whilst playing dull football.

......did I really just type that?

Crouch should have started, Heskey is probably England's worst player in the past 10 years or so.

I went down to watch this at Trafalgar Square, guess what? there was no big screens up as promised on websites/news sites so that alone was a ****take....had some people coming all over England to watch it here.(What's more annoying they had a huge screen up the day before for Uruguay vs France...)

Did anyone else here go? i eventually went to a local pub there, was crazy and great night shame about the game but we still will qualify was just one of those nights.:)

Same old England.

Capello hasn't changed much, hasn't got them playing well and isn't picking players on form.

England aren't as good as they think they are, The underestimate teams and still don't learn.
