As tom84 has said I really dont understand why we dont use the 4-3-3 formation! We dont have a natural strike partner for Rooney and have two great wingers in Lennon and Cole this formation would work a treat!

If we had Barry fit which he should be he can be DCM with Lamps and Gerrard further forwards behind Rooney.

What annoys me the most is during the friendlies this wasnt used! I think he changed formation for about 15mins.

Not a lot has really changed still the same team with same tactics that qualified against a low standard of teams.

Were lucky to beat Mexico and luckier to beat Japan.

Did anyone else think Carragher was quite lucky not to get sent off?? Did one appalling challenge that he rightly got a yellow from, then he brought Altidore down with his arm when he was the last man. The ref seemed to take it as a body check but he quite clearly brings his arm up across Altidore's chest to stop him.

Of course he was...he was lucky the ref wasnt in a better position as that ref is notorious for being a bit trigger card happy.

But should have been a 2nd yellow for Carra there as Altidore was almost through on goal.

I thought Green kinda redeemed himself with a stunning save from one of the americans players...cant remember his name...tried to put it in the top corner but Green made a stunning save.

I thought Milner was very silly get a yellow card for some rash challenges in the first half...Capello then took him off as i guess he didnt want to risk him being sent off.

BTW King got subbed...is his dodgy knees giving up on him??.

Heskey is an idiot simple as that...how the **** he gets taken to the WC, ends up putting out Ferdinand for the WC then almost goes and kills Howard earlier on tonight is truly beyond me:confused:

I agree.

Carragher is old and slow, and is all about cheap fouls and forcing people off the ball.

And has been for a while now for Liverpool. In the league it seems he's very, very lucky not to get booked more often. He has gotten away with some shocking foul play in and around the box. Tho I think he's starting to get found out more and more.

Its apparently a groin injury, so he's extra screwed now with a dodgy groin and knees :p

Just need his ankles to pack up and we can give him a pipe and slippers and sit him down in a nice wheelchair :D

All im going to say is that after watching a few matches we don't have the emotion that other teams seem to have, Capello had more FFS.

What I hate about English football, overpaid bunch of prats who think it's ok to walk around the pitch instead of run (Looking at you, Rooney!)

Not a Football fan, can't comment on the technicalities of play, but can comment on if a player is putting the effort in, and none of those guys on that pitch (Americans included) acted like they really REALLY wanted to be there.

Need to sort out our attitude TBQFH.

And he also was skinned for pace giving altidore a 1v1 where Green tipped it onto the woodwork. There is a reason that Carragher was rarely used before his 'retirement' and that is because the guy never had any pace and has got slower since then. I think Capello needs to gamble and start Dawson.

Fact is this is about as poor an England team as there's been for quite some time

No stand out Keeper
No stand out Right Back
From having a wealth of talent in defence we're suddenly looking at Terry who's been **** recently himself and a load of crocks
No stand out right winger
No stand out left winger
Our two best centre midfielders cant play with one another as a two and we've got no outstanding third choice
Rooney (who is out and out England's best player by a mile) is the only striker who can be classed as one of the best strikers in the world, the rest of nations probably just laugh when they see our backups are Crouch, Defoe & Heskey

More worryingly though for those that care is that Terry, Lampard & Gerrard are all in their thirties now with this possibly their last world cup and apart from Lennon who is still in the learning stage of his career there are no obvious replacements & Rooney where is the hope coming from for the future tournaments? And for those that might point to the likes of Milner or Adam Johnson look at who Argentina have in their team and will have in their team for the next 8 years at least, likewise Spain

As crazy as it is considering that team had Danny Mills at RB & Trevor Sinclair on the left of midfield England have been in a steady decline since the 2002 World Cup and things are only going to get worse unless in the next 4 years we unearth some serious talent

On a brighter note though I personally thought England's second half performance was about as good as I've seen from them in a long time and deserved to win, if they play a team like Germany though god help them let alone the Argie's or Spain

Welcome to EPL where all the best teams are full of foreigners its only going to get worst, for example the England keeper 3 keepers 2 players from clubs at the bottom of the league and one on loan because his club bought a better keeper, WOOT :(

Its great when the EPL is on we forget about the England team.

Its good to see him giving Arsenal a break :D

Thank God for the World Cup! lol

DM is very confused when it comes to supporting a team.

England didnt do great but hopefully we will pick up the pace over the next two games and then when it really matters we are firing on all cylinders.

I'll point this out again, while 80% of the public follows blindly and says we'll win, NOTHING changes, three different managers and ALL the same mistakes are being made because no ones being truthful.

Same goes for Arsenal, everyone can ignore the problems, not fix them, consistantly make excuses like "its only a friendly", "the cup isn't for two years, they'll improve" , "Gerrards great for his club, form will come for England.......... eventually" , "heskey somehow makes Rooney play great", despite playing great for his club without heskey and despite the fact that Rooney was crap tonight while Heskey, for what he actually does wasn't bad tonight, he played "his" game well, just not sure what game it is, dodgeball?

If you are HONEST, actually work out what the problems are, you can IMPROVE and maybe even win something.

I honestly find it both pathetic, embarassing, and somewhat saddening that I'm attacked for WANTING MY TEAMS TO WIN, for actually being honest, looking for weaknesses and looking to how to IMPROVE so we CAN WIN THINGS.

No being a fan is apparently blind support, so obviously, clearly, Derby will win the Premier league next year if all the fans simply put full faith behind the current team........ is that how support works?

No thats rubbish, Derby need to improve massively to win a premier league, you can choose to ignore it, but Arsenal need massive improvements to win the league and England need wholesale sweeping changes to win a cup.

I'm completely fed up with being questioned for wanting my teams to improve and win things.

Lets be clear, the blind faith method of willing England to win, has failed completely and uttely for 44 years. Blind faith doesn't make your team win, doesn't help improve them and doesn't help the manager make choices. Blind faith and ignoring the problems has not helped any team win any game ever in the history of any sport.

Delusions do not win cups, or leagues or games, realism, honesty and exposing then fixing weaknesses has worked successfully for every successful team in the history of every sport. So I'm a bad fan, because I want to fix both England and Arsenals weakness's to make better teams....... if you can honestly say that makes me a bad fan, well, theres nothing more to say.

You're happy with losing but pretending we have a great team, I'm unhappy losing and want the team to be better so we can win.

get a new manager play same old england 442 play boot it up and hope goalie doesnt do a clanger just like old times.

when we get a team that can pass and play together we might stand a chance.

all the best can and we cant thats why we wait for a quarter finals at best and then see brazil , france or italy take home the prize :(

want england to win but notihng special to see this time

You're an absolute twit, I mean seriously, its because of the foreigners? No the reason England suck is ENGLISH PEOPLE who harang managers into picking who they think will win us games, which has failed, for decades.

We have great players, we have great wingers, we have great defenders, we have fantastic strikers, we have at least 3 very good keepers.

What we don't have is a keeper whose played in the first team role for England for 4-8 years. Dida for Brazil, Buffon for Italy, Barthez for France(when they were successful). No, we have Green, a perfectly good keeper(dida isn't fantastic by ANY stretch of the imagination) however he's probably playing due to a James injury........ ooo the confidence, what a great understanding he has playing with a solid and stable back 4. NO wait, no keeper has a good understanding with his defence, and our defence isn't stable because our managers choose whoevers in vogue that month and constantly put chronically injured people back in at a moments notice.

We have one of the top 3 most consistant wingers in the league in Ashley Young, for the past 4 years or so, not in the squad, and Lennon, SWP and WAlcott vying for places because ickle guys are in the papers a lot this year.

Foreigners in our league IMPROVES our players, better players around our players IMPROVES OUR PLAYERS, more worse English players would make our players worse.

Our problem is squad selection, constant changes, no practice and the fact that the team that lined up today has NEVER played a game together before, do you not think THATS the problem?

Same old

Its a shame people can't actually speak the truth

England are not very good

Look at the Goal attacks tonight?

No edge, or poetry,or finesse

Laurel & Hardy goal keeper

Cole just throwing in failed to find a player

And never mind if they get to the penalty stages.

They all just look like Rabbits in head lights.

I blame the media to an extent

These normal guys on high wages believe the hype about themselves

When it comes to deliver they fail

World cup football does not mean foolish keeping and quite frankly poor.

Possession should mean confidence and the england team to me seem to lack it.

Terry looking at camera after interview is media school BS too.

Just play the game

Why do so many people seem to think England are an amazing team? 44 years is a bloody long time and nostalgia and blind faith don't win world cups. Although being an Australia fan I wouldn't know what does ;) (but expect we'll feature a lot more frequently now qualifying in Asia rather than Oceania).
As much as actually support England in their games (with obvious exceptions) there was a little schadenfreude at the result having seen the little piece Adrian Chiles did just prior to the match mocking the Americans, talk about hubris.

I'm an England fan

But I'm not deluded.

I said many not all :) But you're right, tbh realistic goal setting would be a good start. England aren't going to win the world cup, as much as it would be nice to it just doesn't seem likely. Getting to the semis would be a more realistic and worthy achievement. The problem is that getting that far and going out would be treated like a tragedy when in fact it'd be something to celebrate.
Hell, I'll be over the moon if Australia make it past the group stage.

Heskey's shot on goal in the second half... the one right at Howard..

Darren Bent woulda BURIED that.

Bent or Heskey.. I know, especially on club form, who I woulda took..

All I can think of is that Heskey must have some very powerful friends, or he has photos of Capello getting frisky with a llama.

Because everyone I know just laughed their asses off when I told em Heskey was up front.
