I was not impressed with England's performance. There were mistakes all over the show. After the 1st 5 mins I thought, "at last we can play like we played in 1998". But it all turned sour.

We won't be spanking anyone if we don't play a dam lot better. We should have spanked the yanks.

Defoe should have played alongside Rooney and Joe Hart should have been in goal, also, Joe Cole should have started instead of Milner.

What was most disappointing was not the goal we let in - crap happens in games, it was the utterly pathetic response as we just looked completely clueless and unthreatening.

Thoughts running through my head after the game:

Heskey - chances in intn'l football are sometimes few and far between. For all the assists and chat from the players, he is just not good enough at getting the ball in the net - I would prefer Crouch 99/100 times frankly.

Carragher - Bloody lucky to still be on the pitch at the end of the game, should have got a second yellow for his obstruction of the USA striker. Showed up massively how much Ferdinand was missed purely because King, unsurprisingly, could not be relied upon to last a whole game and Carragher's lack of pace was horribly exploited - I suspect this was what broke the shape of the team as we had to defend deeper to make up for the lack of pace, and so struggled to penetrate going forward.

Onyewu - out of position (like most of the USA team) for the first goal, but played really well in Defence, looks like a good player

Howard might have broken ribs.

IRENE, South Africa -U.S. coach Bob Bradley isn't sure whether goalkeeper Tim Howard broke ribs during a collision with Emile Heskey in the Americans' World Cup opener against England.

"He'll be evaluated later today and then a decision will be made as to whether he'll need further tests," Bradley said Sunday. "Obviously he was sore — did a great job of taking a tough hit, and staying in it and playing really well. But we'll assess him later today and figure out then what we need to do from there.

Heskey is on a 1 man mission to take as many players out in this tournament as possible!

England striker Emile Heskey has claimed the Jabulani World Cup match ball contributed to his bad miss against USA in Saturday's 1-1 draw.

Yeah it was the balls fault Heskey ;)

Out for 3 weeks I've just heard :/

Upson or Dawson it is then :/

In the Times this morning:

England’s World Cup campaign was hit by more problems yesterday when Ledley King was ruled out for up to three weeks and the first signs of dissent emerged over Fabio Capello’s selection policy.

David James is understood to be unhappy at being overlooked for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with the United States, in which Robert Green’s gaffe cost England victory.

James’s anger centres on a difference of opinion over his fitness with the England management, who feel that he is still struggling with a minor knee complaint they believe has hindered his performances in training.

The Portsmouth goalkeeper is adamant that he is 100 per cent fit, however, and is unhappy at not being given an opportunity to stake his claim.

.... and David James appears not to be too happy.
