World Cup Bets

So? Not everyone has to make crazy bets to win £3,824,917 or back something for £100's to make it worthwhile. What would you rather do, bet £2.50 on 2 games with a potential return, albeit small, or waste £2.50 (which millions do, hence why bookies make £bn's profit) on a ridiculous bet that'll never come up?

i was just saying its better to pick 2-4 teams rather than 1 team, makes it more worthwhile. the reasons why bookies make so much money is because some idiots just dont know when to stop. im personally over 2 grand up this season. luck is involved but you need to be smart as well. i made about £200 profit on the champions league final, so i used £100 of it for bets on the world cup. i only play with some of my winnings and i spread them about. if i lose, i generally dont gamble for about a month afterwards so im never chasing losses. say if every single one of my bets loses, im still £100 up. and wont gamble for a month.

I love this twisted logic, if I lose I'm still up. You're not, you're £100 down :( :p

Anyone doing each way top goalscorer bets ?

I fancy David Villa & Luis Fabiano to both be in the top 4, I'm not big up on betting but I think it says you get 1/4 of the odds if they finish in top 4 scorers ...

Thinking of doing £5 e/w on them both ... am I right in thinking if one of them wins it the bet pays out for the win and the place ?

thanks

is it even worth putting these bets on or are you doing it just for fun? winning less than £10-15 in each case, the only one which looks likely is v persie getting top goalscorer too. france are awful and uruguay have an amazing up front, south africa are an uknown quantity but i dont rate them high enough to draw with mexico even on home soil. torres no matter how good he is has been over used by liverpool and played even when injured, causing further injuries, the boy needs to rest, i can see him getting badly injured in the world cup and ronaldo wont live up to the hype.

I dont bet much at all thats why ive only done them three i may do some more of it later but its a bit of fun if none of em earn me back naff all i aint fussed only lost £3

say fabiano is 16 to 1

£5 each way is a £10 bet (£5 on 1st place and £5 on 1st to 4th Place)

If he comes in 1st you win £100 if he comes in 2nd, 3rd or 4th you win £20.

so you would be either £90 up or £10 up.

Ok I've just signed up to betfair and am going to look like a royal noob now...

what the hell does this Back and Lay business mean?

if your new to betting dont use betfair

use william hill otherwise if you end up making a simple mistake you could lose £1000's im not joking.

Laying is when you are the bookie

Backing is when you are the punter

stay away from betfair, honestly i wouldnt want you to make a mistake if your doing this for just a bit of fun.

hold on a minute

i started with £50 say.

I won £250.

I bet another £100.

I lose £100

I now have £150 (started with £50)

would i be £100 up or down?

You had £250, you lose £100 and have £150. You start again with £250! You have £250 in your pocket, it doesn't matter if you earnt it working/as a gift/gambling, if you have it you have it and if you lose £100 you're losing £100 you could have had.

I do understand what you mean and I've squandered money I should have kept because I thought it was fine because I'd won it :p then I realised I was trying to justify losing money I could have done with

Thanks for the advice but I've stuck a bit of money on the account so I'll just put a few on, so it's "normal" if I just do the backing?

after placing the money you have deposited. i would take any winnings and withdraw them and not use betfair again until you know a lot more than you do currently. one simple mistake could cost you a lot.

i would use william hill for any future bets, i have used all the sites and although paddy power offer regular free bets, the layout and look of william hill is the easiest to use, plus the odds are better on william hill.

i prefer using easy layouts so i stay away from betfair its more for the hardcore gamblers and people who like to do that free bet trick thing where its impossible to lose.

i would suggest william hill for newbies and betting virgins.
paddy power for the more experienced gambler.
betfair for hardcore gamblers.

say fabiano is 16 to 1

£5 each way is a £10 bet (£5 on 1st place and £5 on 1st to 4th Place)

If he comes in 1st you win £100 if he comes in 2nd, 3rd or 4th you win £20.

so you would be either £90 up or £10 up.

Thanks for a bit of guidance, much appreciated.

Thanks for this info ...

I'm also not yet signed up to any online gambling sites, but I can agree with you that when I had a quick look at a few W. Hill certainly seemed the most user friendly out of them all.

Is Betfair not even worth joining just for the £40 quidco cashback you can get at the moment ?

I was thinking of just joining it to do my Fabiano and Villa E/W top scorer bets I mentioned above, what you think .... still stay away from it ?

Cheers

join it, but be cautious and re-read everything twice when placing a bet. after you get your cashback/bonus i would stick to william hill, who also offer cashback/bonus. after you are more experienced you can venture into the more unfriendly sites.
