World Cup Group E (Czech Rep, Ghana, Italy, USA) **SPOILERS**

does any1 else think hanson is being patronising to marsel (sp) the way he looks like hes talking down to him well not down to him but more as in a PC way if that makes sense? All look like they kinda ganging up on him to get him involved

I thought that at Half Time. I think Marcel has been brilliant too, seems to have a lot to say, problem is, he is describing stuff with his hands when a replay is on (such as when he described "The player should have shot like this instead of shooting like this").

He's done a great job though. However, Martin O'Neill is a class above, he summed everything up perfectly, wasn't afraid to go against what everyone else was saying aswell (which makes a change for the Beeb), such as when everyone was praising Appiah and Martin O'Neill then went on to say the problem was Appiah and the reasons are, 'a', 'b' and 'c'. Great commentary.

Not a very inspiring win for the italians tbh, i could see the czechs ripping their defence apart pretty easily. I was under the impression that the italians had a great defence...judging by that preformance they were lucky Ghana couldnt put the ball in the back of the net.

Oh well at least they won me another £200....all in all a pretty good day for me betting wise :p

Not sure what game you were watching, was a very inspired win. I was a little concerned for Italy at the start of the game as i didn’t think Pirlo was going to play or be at his best as he has been below par much of the season. Boy was I wrong! :D he was very instrumental, scoring one and setting up the other. Fantastic performance by him.

Sorry to disappoint all the Iti haters out there but they never went into their shells and were very positive, the substitutions were spot on. I had little faith in Iaquinta as I would have had Lippi taken Lucarreli to the WC instead but he came good.

I'm extremely pleased overall and Ghana had not a lot on them, most attacks were easily snuffed out by the brilliant defence. The Italy-Czech game will not be that significant if Italy beat USA, but depending how Brazil do, no doubt they will top the group, should still be a scintillating game. I will call it a close game.

Now to the other game, what a fantastic performance by the Czechs, Nedved had a blinding game. Arsenal fans will be loving it, Rosicky is a fantastic talent, awesome goals. Always love watching the Czechs, cant call them the underdogs anymore as they have had their time, but a great team to watch with full attack throughout the 90 mins

Forza Azzurri!

Also have to say O'neil was very pro Italy today, was ribbing into them before!

lol love the way italian bench are all calling a dive when the whole game over there is like a drama class

Was a dive. Maybe you were looking through your anti-Italian glasses but i saw hardly any melodramatic displays.

no way they deserve to win this game tho tbh they are pretty damn awful and imo have been outplayed majority of the game

Are you having a laugh, or didn’t you watch the game? I suppose you were one of those that thought England had a blinding game.

Good game i thought.
I'd say the 2nd best game ive seen in the tournament thus far.
Of course, without reading any of this thread, im willing to bet that half a dozen, if not more, of you were complaining left/right/center at things in the game that England/any other country were also guilty of. :p

Italy didnt play amazing, but were 'good'. Definately missing Zambrotta & Gatusso.
Ghana didnt play all that well, and Essian, despite the pundits, didnt exactly do much.

Ghana could have arguably had one penalty, but the 2nd was a dive.
Iaqunita played well when he came on. Totti was quiet but good in patches. Pirlo played well. Nesta was pretty solid for the most part. LucaToni, despite not scoring did quite well i thought, allways a problem for their defence and showed some real skill in places. He'll start scoring soon i think.

Good overall.
:)

uuuuhuuuuum

I dont think the italians are that great tbh and i expect to see them knocked out semis i dont think they showed that much strength around a more attacking side like brazil i think they would get annihlated tbh i wouldnt say there defense was good because as said ghanas attacks where fantastic but still italy didnt deal with them all too great.

And if he hadnt of jumped it would have been a pentaly he was obstructed as he went between the two which i believe is a pentalty when in the area?!?!

Now go and clean your italian glasses :p

I cant see the Czech republic beating italy.
If today's performance is anything to go by, I am siding with the Czech. The Czech were the better team, just like Italy was the better team in their respective matches... But I found the Czech play far more inspiring.

Are Italy going to fall foul of linesmen for the 2nd WC in succession? I remember clearly for WC2002, Italy had 2 perfectly good goals ruled out for offside against South Korea, leading them to be beaten in Golden Goal injury time. Tonight, Iaquinta was onside when Kuffour brought him down, and there were also 2 other occasions involving Gilardino and Iaquinta where they were onside and would have been through on the goalie, only to be given offside.

I really hope this is Italy's year. The team looked good tonight. I felt they were never really pressed at any time, and didn't really need to play above 80%, and were able to deal with any Ghanian pressure pretty comfortably overall. Toni looked dangerous, which I'm pleased about having only seen him play a handful of games prior to this, so I was going purely on reputation (50 goals in last 2 seasons in Serie A).

De Rossi, who I rate, was lucky not to be sent off. I felt that the incident in the Italy box should have been a pen for Ghana, and a 2nd yellow for De Rossi. Having said that, it was fair overall, as it balanced out the Kuffour non-sending off.

Totti showed some good glimpses tonight despite being only 70% fit. Being a keen follower of Serie A, especially Roma & Juventus, I get annoyed when people feel he is overrated. Had he not broken his leg, he would have been coming into the WC on the back of some his best ever form, meaning people would finally get to see his true potential on the world stage. I just hope he was taken off tonight as just a precaution, to make sure he is safe to play against USA and the Czechs.

I completely missed the Czech game, as I was on the way back home from an exam, but from the highlights they seemed excellent, especially Nedved and Rosicky.

Surely Italy and the Czech's should qualify with ease, yes?

Italy's week point is the midfield. They are solid at the back and plenty of cover up front. With Gattusso out and playing perotta in that area its not the best set up. Zacardo is not convincing at LB, I'm waiting on Zambrotta to be fit in time. I'm just really glad Pirlo came good today, he is the key playmaker and links up the play.

was quite impressed with italy and ghana yesterday. ghana should have had atleast 1 goal. imo they let in 2 sloppy goals, other than that it was pretty much end to end stuff. essien probably played better than hes played for chelsea so far, what do you think?
