Yup, defo has helped a bit. Still can notice the fringing if I go looking though but it really is a non issue imo.



Done a fair bit of HDR gaming with HDR 1000, it looks great, definitely better than my lg e7 for overall quality, the uniformity, lack of banding of any kind etc. really makes a nice difference. Riftbreaker is probably my favourite showcase so far.

Some photos but as per usual, nothing like what you see in real life especially for when showing HDR stuff. Couple of film pics for those who will be using this as their media display too:

CP2077 looks good with hdr but I still think it's not quite true hdr as blacks do seem a bit elevated still.



Hopefully dell get back to me tomorrow with the refund as don't want to go back to my ips now nor do I want the faff of having to return then wait!

Will leave at 2.4 for now until his final review is out and tftcentral get their results then decide from there what to do next.

I've just been flicking between 2.2 and 2.4 in the OSD watching Picard (has loads of dark scenes but the mastering of these is such that at 2.2 it highlights some blocky artefacts in some really dark areas of frame in any given episode like when a space ship flies across space and transitions from space dust/smoke etc to pure blackness of space or a shadow area. At 2.4 the contrast appears to be better and the blocky artefacts are less obvious. In Windows and other apps the shadow contrast is increased, but in a good way. For all intents and purposes I would say Creator mode set to sRGB and Gamma set to 2.4 in Windows does appear to be the best suited mode to be in.

As Vincent's video shows, his Spectral measurements of sRGB in Creator mode are also very accurate with an excellent delta reading.

I would say out of the box, given spectral measurements from Vincent and others, the AW is actually a display that does not need any further calibration for purely sRGB use under a Windows system. So gamma 2.2-2.4 (depending on preference), sRGB. Leave all nVidia control panel settings on default other than setting it to 10bit (so 144Hz) - Purely because some content I watch is 10bit encoded, and if you're using MPC and tone mapping HDR to SDR, then HDR content is 10bit native anyway. Besides, 10 bit may help reduce banding in some instances although Vincent's findings show it's minimal (content depending I guess) - Either way, 175Hz introduces more noticeable flickering so probably best to stay 144Hz and 10 bit anyway. Best balance.

It's so bad, it's literally going right in the trash now, not even worth returning!

Thanks for confirming. That's pretty much my settings atm too, creator, srb, gamma 2.4, brightness 52% and contrast 74%, eco off. I did notice some banding/artefacts in DL 2 when in pitch black areas but going to 2.4 fixed that.

A question to one of you owners: is FreeSync supported over HDMI? I.e would it be possible to let the G-Sync Ultimate fan be switched off if one is content with running at 100Hz and still get HDR + VRR?

I read that the fan is shut off when DP is unplugged.

@Nexus18 I just tested the Dell profile that Windows shows in your screenshot. I would suggest removing it completely by ticking the box saying Use My Settings for this device/display and then highlight and remove the Dell profile.

Reason being that I noticed the same photo loaded in Firefox vs the Photo viewer in Windows shows muted/flat colours vs what Firefox shows which in turn is also what my phone's screen shows (S22 Ultra in Natural mode, a highly accurate AMOLED display) and exactly how I expect the photos to look as they are my own photos edited on the LG IPS. With the profile removed, both photo viewer, browser and phone display the same tonal range for colours with the aforementioned OSD settings.

Manufacturer profiles may include generic gamut mapping data derived from the full native gamut of the display. If you're using that profile on colour-aware (ICC aware) applications and also using the monitor with its sRGB setting, you will see 'double correction' and significant undersaturation. So yeah, generally best avoiding the included profile. The sRGB setting applies universally and includes the full factory calibration for this model.

Yup figured that was the case. Even my Lightroom window was showing muted colours with the profile applied in Windows. Removing it brought photos back to how I would expect things to look.

By trained eye, I think currently everything looks spot on with the above settings. All the photos I previously edited in Lightroom on the LG IPS look and feel how they did on the IPS. There is no OLED "punch" to primary colours in Creator mode either compared to custom mode (which meant having to dial down digital vibrancy in nVidia's control panel).

As it stands right now, I am happy with how things look for editing my photos and am in no burning desire to calibrate the panel any further so will just wait for a suitable correction profile for DisplayCAL and pass it through that whenever that may be as I imagine OLED pixels will age over time so will need more frequent recalibration vs an IPS with LED backlight which barely shifted much other than OSD brightness in the years gone by calibrating that on the LG.

I just have my display set to Preset: default (leaf) and i was quite surprised how the colours in LOTR looked, but then in things which i know should be vibrant, it looked vibrant. I also have that ICC profile enabled from the monitors driver.

In some instances with how much better this display is over my old one, everything just looks so much better.
But i have also skipped quite a few generations of improvement in LCD tech between my 8+ year old LG TN display and this one.

I have not tried it over HDMI, just DP. Is also awkwards for me to re-arrange my desk to test it.

I'm just hoping they realise it is the best move for both me and them i.e. to save on returns faff and cost as well as me potentially getting one that is faulty (whenever it arrives, be that next month or the month after) then having to go through warranty/replacements etc. faff.
