World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Obviously would prefer it sooner, but if it comes on Friday then technically they have hit their first delayed date...

Aye. Tbh, its mostly a personal problem for me. I have issues with maintaining attention, so stuff like tracking can mess with my noggin a bit. The amount of mental energy I could have saved if these companies just gave certain date/time - rather than constantly shift the posts is significant. Know that sounds a bit pathetic to some, but ehh... #accessibility2022

Tbh with you, I have gone from a 27" 1440p to this, so the PPI is basically identical. The fonts still look crap, even after various tweaks including the better font smoothing tools. I wouldnt use this for productivity/coding/whatever you do that isnt gaming.

Yeah but the specific issue with the layout of the pixel and that would still be further resolved with a higher PPI. The low PPI is not good for this pixel layout. The 109PPI is fine for the standard pixel layout but yeah pushing 150+ PPI would certainly help resolve this particular text issue.

I've tried recording videos to capture the sound but all it captures is traffic noise from outside and the birds singing :p I must be lucky or my hearing must be awful as I can't hear the fan at all over the ambient noises and my PC unless I literally put my head right at the back.

Popup screen thing, I only had it once and I set it to proceed without notifying me and haven't seen it since. Only time pixel refresh seems to run is when I stop using the monitor for a set time i.e. it has never happened during gaming/usage.

Gsync, not really that bothered but personally have found it to handle the low fps range better/more smooth although not that you'll want to be dropping below 60 fps still anyway.

Text wise, can't say it has bothered me at all, on certain small fonts, you can notice it especially if you go back and forth from a good high res. IPS display to this but . I tried that thing mrk linked a while ago but didn't like how the font looked so have stuck with my default windows cleartype settings.

Every display will always have some cons over another but as it is, not a single display can come close to this even for £1099 imo. Could be tempted by a 38" version as the curve definitely makes the 34" feel a bit smaller compared to my flat 34" but only if I can get it for about £600/700 too :D

I shut down my PC, and the the power switch on the monitor pulses green. Anyone know what it is?

Pixel refresh.

It's how the panel keeps itself healthy. Let it run.
Exactly. I assume one turns of monitor and either leaves the area or does something else. Can’t see why the power button pulsing green for a few minutes which indicates the panel is being refreshed is an issue :)

@Curlyriff higher ppi would help but it's something that MS can a decent amount for with some OS updates to cleartype and handling of this pixel arrangement.

It's also worse on certain types of applications (discord being the worst) while productivity apps like MS office, I don't notice anything.

After a lot of testing, I'd strong recommend sticking to 144hz for the best balance in motion quality coupled with image quality. I used a combination of testufo.com and FPS (CoD blops) with settings adjusted to keep the FPS close to native.

If we look at testufo, at 144hz, you can make just about make out the individual white windows on the ufo at 960lines. Once you bump it upto 175hz, the white window separation is more obvious at 960lines. However, you're not able to resolve at 1200 lines. If i had to guess, a setting in between of ~1100 lines would be ideal.

In gameplay, I could not detect any subjective differences in reduced blur (motion blur setting ingame is disabled) or a perceived reducing with input lag by using 175hz.

Staying at 144hz also will let you bump the image quality settings by a notable degree and not rely on tools such as DLSS which I personally don't like due to the artefacts I can see with it. Even on a 3090, 175hz is hard at 3440x1440 in newer games.

Beyond gaming, looking at many hours of HDR test footage which I know quite well, there is *no* difference is 10bit vs 8bit+FRC. Anyone claiming such, please ask them to provide hard proof. This should not be a consideration at all.

If you're playing lesser demanding games, moving to 175hz is naturally a no brainer but most people tend to play more modern games. Chances are you bought a QD OLED for the image quality bump in games so finding the balance between panel speed and image quality becomes a tradeoff.

Aye, tbh I am also really wanting just higher PPI. The monitors are just way below what I feel is acceptable considering view distance. For instance a 24" 4k monitor is pretty decent at 183PPI. That sort of level that monitors should be aiming for. Stop looking at resolution and look at the PPI generally.

If you've got clicking it's probably the bearing in the fan I guess. That's usually the issue with clicking fans. Mine definitely isn't clicking

I wouldn't say the fan in my monitor is quiet, but it's not loud either. It's about the same noise as my PC when browsing etc. I can notice it but it's not too bothersome. When I play games I'm usually using headphones so don't really notice the noise too much then, but my 3080 FE is pretty loud anyway.

Just spoke to Dell, now saying DHL will deliver it tommorow. Not happy, this is the third time now I have been emailed saying its coming on a specific day only for it to be delayed again.... How do I even know they are telling the truth.

Now organising to go and collect from a depot today, as I'm fed up of the incompetence

EDIT: not allowed because its at the main warehouse in coventry.... but I have now been doubly assured it will most definitely arrive tommorow
