World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

I have emailed Dell regarding some extra discounts. I have it in writing that I should have an extra 5% due to a code I couldn't use when buying (before they said the code shouldn't work anyway).

I am also asking for a further discount due to the delay and confusion, but mainly because of a stuck red pixel. It isn't enough for me to bother with an RMA, but it is an annoyance none the less.

I will let you know what they come back with.

P.S. I have no issue with the fan noise on my monitor. It is a very low hum and completely drowned by any background noise.

It starts off with a very low hum but does get noisier after you've been using it for 4-6 hours solid.

Mine has a stuck red pixel as well, it's annoying but I'm not going to RMA it yet.

I've gone from a 32 inch Samsung 4K QD VA "business" monitor to this and I think the sharpness difference in going from a diffuse, matte, anti-reflective coating on the Samsung to the gloss coating on the Dell outweighs the sub-pixel arrangement differences as long as you are not viewing single pixel wide fonts.

I use Visual Studio Code on it and I have 3 code windows side by side which are roughly 120 characters wide by 70 lines high and have the git change map scrollbars enabled and the text quality is great. I've been a Software Engineer for 36 years now and I think this is the best "productivity" setup I've had.

I would say that I had to carefully adjust ClearType on it. With the 4K monitor I had tuned it to "thicken" up the font previews to make them look darker. With the Dell monitor I found that this was counter productive and it was better not to do this.

Likewise.

Also using terminals with true blacks looks awesome

21.9 1440 is a great format for development and better than 4k 16.9 imo.

you guys will be enjoying true blacks soon from a monitor

Never gets old.

Nice. Could he not have tested it on the Alienware or is this a TV processing feature?

I asked the same question, I assume the "fix" is as a result of the QD-OLED technology not having a white subpixel and Vincent was only made aware of it at the Sony showcase so *should* be the same on the AW3423DW.

You can test this yourself well. If you got a WOLED, put them side by side and watch similar content.

So far there’s not a single aspect where the C1 out did the AW for me.

@Baddass in the testufo at 175hz I was able to make out the individual white windows at 960lines but not at 1200. Is there a way to get an in between number? I have a feeling it’s between 1080-1100 if that was an option

Obviously hard to judge viewing through another screen, but it looks over saturated and over bright to me.

Whilst saturated colours may look nice in certian scenarios, I think in things like films and realistic games they look artificial, I do like saturated colours in animated style graphics though like tales games.

The best news from this is that it perhaps makes the older oled more likely in monitors now as its been relegated to 2nd tier.

Response from Dell. I am only getting my promised 5% refund, and nothing on top of that for the stuck pixel and order delay.

Not the best response, especially as others on here have been given 10% for the delay. Still, I think the monitor was worth it for £800 which is my final price.

Monitor......has landed. Box in good nick too, let's hope it's a good start!

PS. Seems DHL don't really stick to their delivery windows, mine arrived an hour earlier than said so just glad am in.

You actually get a 1hr time slot with DHL, was not expecting that. In this day and age that should be a minimum now.

Well looks like mine should arrive between 3 - 4 today hopefully.
