World of Warcraft: Classic

So um, despite not playing at the moment I still saw the news from Blizzcon.

Season of Discovery - this seems to be a "halfway house" between classic and classic+, looks like you level to 25 initially and then it's off to Blackfathom Deeps raid? Also lots of class revamps, they're talking about warlock tanks and mage healers. Will keep an eye on this one.

Cataclysm Classic - Don't understand this one at all. Cataclysm can never be "classic" as it's just retail servers at this point with some expansions disabled. Without being too pessimistic I expect a big drop in numbers playing it.

Especially as Catavlysm classic comes out about the same time as War Within. So will people play the brand new saga or some old crap I think I know

Classic+ sounds bit weird but it's seasonal content, they're bringing Diablo style seasons to WoW. That allows them to do funky junk without breaking the game because after 3 months they reset it or whatever. The first season has a level cap of 25 and following seasons will have different caps. I like this idea as it forces all players into a specific set of content such as low level dungeons and PvP battlegrounds. Plus WoW has always felt more fun at lowered levels. The fact that they are turning existing dungeons into raids with new loot sounds interesting

I wonder if it players will have to level a new character for every season, if so hopefully they buff XP massively

Seasonal content is the right way to play around with the classes like this - I have concerns if they don't optimise quests/mobs for the new abilities though - as it's adding a lot of TBC/WoTLK/New abilities to classes which may trivialise lots of other things, but they seemed to be aware the classic mentality, but seeing is believing.

Blizz being Blizz again and not really listening to players. Seasons in WoW are lame and are not what the player base wanted and they also announce Cataclysm Classic.....really

All the players wanted was a legit Classic+ that rebooted the game into a different direction which kept the essential classic characteristics.

Its time for WoW 2. Be done with what they have now. I dunno, make an ending expansion, something like azeroth gets destroyed, all portals to other out world zones (Outland etc) destroyed.

Just call it a day and do a new one but streamline it without all the bloat, keep it simple but witha solid story and expansive world to explore. Get back to the roots of the og game.

Is it worth jumping back into this? I'll probably start fresh unless I have a toon on the suggested server. Anything good that's well populated (I like a stocked AH to play the market) with horde? Not fussed on world pvp, but will play battlegrounds.

My one concern is the sub lvl 60 dungeon experience, and how when I last played it was entirely dead to normal folk and only available to people able to pay for runs. Still the case?

Both Era and Hardcore are pretty populated at the moment, but honestly I would wait until the end of the month as both will drop off at least for a short period of time with this new seasonal content.

Won't happen. They only want low risk high reward projects. I love WoW don't get me wrong but the low effort and lack of innovation is really disappointing. The fact they won't even budget for a proper Classic+ blows my mind.

Might retry wow again woukd you suggest classic or retail for my use case?
I played wow from burning crusade to legion

new char) I like to just relax quest and do bgs

Hate dungeons and raids or anything requiring leaning on others now days

i thought the point of classic was to stay like the original game? i think they should have just kept it up to wrath, that was the sweet spot, i havent played in years but played hardcore from the start up to mists of pandaria

They have, they have era which is classic - they just realise that people (regardless of the vocal people) want to experience other expansions again. I think it'll be interesting to see what #changes they make. I think they'll be a bit bolder. I don't play much anymore but jump on era mostly.

So essentially we will have two retails ongoing now. Brilliant. The classic era does not include Cata (Wotlk was pushing it!) since there were fundamental changes to the game which pushed it another direction from Vanilla and TBC. They would have to redesign the entire expannsion to make it feel like classic.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't really - on one hand people wanted WoTLK no changes, people wanted changes haha - they'll release every expansion as long as it makes them money let's be honest.

I'm happy on Era, I wouldn't mind every 2 years them doing fresh era for sure, but looking forward to seeing how crazy the seasonal content is.

Its funny because originaly i quit WOW back in the day shortly into wrath, and this time around the exact same thing has happened, Wrath just does not do anything for me at all, i loved playing wow classic and TBC again. Hunter druid in 2v2 was just as fun as back in the day and managed to hit 2.4k rating, but didnt manage gladiator rank which i did back in the day.

Wish i liked wrath, i cant explain why i don't. It just does not feel like wow to me pvp feels way too chaotic and way too many ability changes and new stuns

Same. I loved Wrath the first time around, put an ungodly amount of /played in.

Didn't even get to 80 this time around. I think GDKP and gold selling massively put me off. I wasn't willing to pay and I didn't have time for a guild so I figured I wouldn't be able to do anything at end game.

I did like Wrath and played it throughout the expansion but i could see this was going on a path that would change the game for the worse. To much instant gratification and appealing to the masses. Once you go that route its extremely hard to turn back from. You could see the direction of WoW turn exactly in 2008 when Activation acquired Blizzard and they mades changes such as getting your mount at level 20 instead of 40.

If you hate dungeons and raids, there's really no point playing WoW retail nowadays.
