***World of Warcraft : Warlords of Draenor***

Amazes me how Blizz does not foresee this, simple matter is they get a lot of resubs when Expansions launch, ontop of current subs, thats a lot of people.

The fix they put in place with the multiple AMK's should have been in place from the start, as well as multiple garrison zones.

By the sounds of it I may not be logging on tonight then, haha.

The only expansion I've played on release day (the second the update went live) was cata. That was actually pretty smooth. Quests were impossible because there weren't enough mobs to go round so just ran dungeons but it wasn't particularly laggy and I didn't get any disconnects.

How to avoid lag on high pop servers

Have someone, or even an alt, on a low pop server invite you to a group, phasing you to that server. Even if the leader logs out you will remain on the wonderfully lag-free server.

Enjoy!

They probably do foresee it, They have to weigh up the cost of forking out new hardware for the release over how long that hardware will be required. There is a reason this kind of issue is fairly common place on go lives not just with Blizzard but with a lot of online based games.

It will also be next to impossible for them to gauge the stress and issues that this amount of people trying to play new content all at once will have. They cannot get this many into the beta to test it

Outland server is unplayable at the moment, hundreds of people stuck at the tag the trees questline and even more stuck at the NPC that completes the garrison quest. People randomly teleporting backwards when they arrive at the quest giver etc. Best leave it a day or so it seems, although then it will be weekend so heaving again!

This reminds me 'currently' of that period a month after vanilla launched and they had no where near the server structure needed for the number of players.

This is going to go down bad if this continues into the weekend, fingers crossed it doesn't as I took time off work to enjoy this expansion and that's the first time I've done that since Wrath of the Lich King launched.

Edit: I had the forsight to see that we may have this happen so I went to bed last night at 9pm and woke up at 3:30am and started playing on Silvermoon then, it was laggy and got worse as the waking hours rolled in :(

Having watched the documentary they released at Blizzcon it was because they didn't anticipate the sheer number of people that would but the game. They copies they had were to be sold over a few months with new infrastructure going live weekly to accommodate it. They sold enough that they had to release a couple of months worth of infrastructure upgrades instantly.

I jumped on CoA this morning at around 5am and there were no issues at all. Buttery smooth with no lag but I expect that to be different when I log on tonight.

I was online last night at 11pm and started getting xp, it wasn't until I realised that was 12 realm time that the game was actually released. I TP'd to Orgrimmar to see the portal completely swamped, the game then become unplayable...especially as the Archmage wasn't even appearing for me. I stupidly logged out and couldn't get back in. Logged back in at 8am this morning and it all seemed fine....no doubt tonight it will be hammered again. This is my first WoW released I've played on launch, the rest happened during times I'd quit.

for anyone who has managed to get an outpost set up remember that you dont have to return to your garrison to hand in follower quests etc, can just do them from the outpost table

Can i level my BS from level 1 at WOD and how do i get about it if i can lol :p

Im MOP you could level BS from 1-600 exclusively using Ghost Iron, all the professions have catch up mechanics now so im assuming you can do the same with the WOD ores/herbs etc, prob be quicker to go farm ghost iron in pandaria now its a ghost town :p

Yeah I was aware of that happening, the CEO said so when he posted on the forums back in the day saying sorry for the shambles that was infrastructure at the time.

I understand the dynamics of server farms for this activity and that providing capacity at launch can be a waste of time and money for the company.

But there is options such as lease based farms for short durations if the back end can expanded over other sites.

Another way is to buy ahead of the refreshment cycle in servers and deploy those until numbers go back to a steady number that's expected to continue after the 1-3 month period then migrating the new servers to the refreshment of old blades in the centres.

I say these options because one of Blizzards strengths is that they refine and make products that are far better than industry standards.

I think if it continues into the busy weekend period the gaming press will have a field day with this and bad press will ensue.

Mind you... it feels like Vanilla/TBC launches all over again lol

When I talk about the above I'm referring to more than Silvermoon, from all accounts the US got it worse than the EU.

I do not think blizzard out source any of their infra and host it all internally at their own data centres so I guess that leasing it wasn't really an option for them.

I'm back in again after a long hiatus. I think I gave up at Cata as it became too much of a time drain and a bit of stress with the Mrs. However my eldest daughter has shown a bit of interest and has levelled a rogue in the last 6 weeks, so I have signed up for WOD. We used the boost on a Warlock which is a class I havent played. Made it undead as most of my toons are Ally. Hopefully it will be fun to level through.

Currently leveling my Priest on Moonglade (Medium population) and it's pretty good! Not much lag, waiting for kills etc.

Gonna move to a higher pop server, probably Silvermoon, when I'm at 100.

Questing hasn't been too bad, but I'm getting a bit sick of the game automatically using my hearthstone every time the server logs me out. And my garrison hearthstone takes me to a loading screen then back to where I was.
