Worst hotel you've ever stayed in?

Many years ago I was moving into a housing association property with the ex, we got the keys and arrived to discover that the electricity meter had been removed because the property had previously used as a weed farm. This happened after we'd been to view it etc.

They put us up in a hotel with a young child, the type of place you'd expect to pay by the hour with a clientele you'd expect.

The door had no lock, it had been kicked in. The bedding hadn't been changed and between the skid marks all over the sheets, pubes and dried vomit and blood in the toilet we didn't stay long as in at all.

A colleague who used to work for a hotel chain as a cleaner found three rooms - all used by roadworks contractors found poo smeared on the ceiling, curtains and bedding used as loo paper. Contents of takeaway (unsure was puked up or looked disgusting in the first place) smeared into the carpet. Bathroom had damage done. The same company of contractors did similar in another hotel 25 miles away. Though different people.

Contractors were banned from using any hotels in the chain in any of the counties the hotels in question were in and neighbouring counties. As rooms had to be fully refurbished.

My colleague got a job at my work soon afterwards so don’t know anymore news about the contractors.

Our last night was in Colombo and the hotel was awesome (as was the Nuwara Eliya hotel/stately home!). We went over to the Maldives straight after and wow that was a contrast!

It was the second hotel we stayed in Kandy that was horrendous. The first one we had stayed at there was average. We also arrived in Ella to find our hotel had been shutdown for renovation and they had not told anyone. A mad rush to find another hotel in the area which we did. That one was average but had a great view down the valley.
Kandy I booked as I got off the train. Played it really fast and loose!

Shame they're having trouble again :(

I’d have to say Holiday Inn Times Square. I didn’t book it as it was booked by a family member.

The lifts are an absolute disgrace. 10 minute waits not being out of the ordinary, I ended up taking the stairs most of the time (26 flights). No maintenance lift which doesn’t help.

It has a public area in front of it that’s used by all the drug addicts in the area. Not that big of a deal to me but not a great experience for a 10 years old when you’re walking past people screaming obscenities at themselves.

They didn’t have water 1 day out of 4, pretty basic necessity for a hotel. When there was water the shower was abysmal and the toilet leaked, reported it 4 times and no fix. The staff were generally unhelpful.

Safe in the room didn’t work, rooms are tiny

Aside from a small gym no facilities, no restroom, no restaurant etc.

Oh yes, a weird high pitched squealing noise was coming through the air vent one of the mornings at silly o clock, never did get to the bottom of what that was.

Just a really unpleasant experience.

Was touring the west coast of America heading north to Alaska so stopping in random motels each evening.

It was always late when arriving so couldn't see much of the places until each morning.

One morning I'd woken up in one motel and in the light of the morning could see metal plaques put up around the whole area warning of Chemical exposure of the land or something, can't recall exactly now but definitely got me checked out right then!

Reminds me of Dark Waters (Movie)

They had the terrorist incidents just a few weeks after I left. One of the hotels hit was only a couple of buildings across from the one we stayed in. It’s a beautiful country, especially up in the mountains (I recommend taking the old train). Really is a shame to see the mess they are in.

At least once, you are on auto pilot and put a couple of sheets in the loo.

Not nice seeing strangers’ skid marked loo roll.

What happens if you a massive poo in Greece?
I've always just put paper in loo but with dual flushing if needed, never had an issue

Not worse, but annoyance. I stayed in Radisson Blu in Vilnius. There was no normal staircase. It was used by many coach trips- probably due to the size. So took an age to go to ground floor or your room if coach loads turned up as lifts were tiny.

I did ask receptionist if there’s some stairs. Only emergency exit stairs. Doors were alarmed. It would be nice to use stairs as my room was on 6th floor - plus burnt calories from the breakfast buffet.

Also no drawers or shelving in the room. Where were guests supposed to put their undies and meds? I used my suitcase.

Completely forgot about this hotel after looking at my previous trip advisor reviews.

Stayed at Jurmala, Latvia (Baltic coast) on the last day of holiday. A couple of days before the stay, we were given a list of options to order the 3 course meal. Then when we got there, it turned out to be a dreadful buffet in the side restaurant. It was disgusting to look at plus choice was **** poor.

A couple of guests including myself, all complained.

Never seen 30 guests complain like this. Why couldn’t they put us in the main buffet restaurant (which was massive)? That wasn’t allowed One of the fellow coach tour guests snook in the restaurant, behind a large family group to look at the buffet, which was much better quality and had spaces available. Head waiter (he was in the other restaurant when we complained) caught him and asked him to leave!

A few of us decided to go to a restaurant by the sea front.

Then was the rooms. Mine was on the lower ground floor and had a view of a bush. Bed was hard and pillows were so soft and no support. Used the spare towels to put pillows on. Woke up with backache.

Tour company refunded £100 plus the bill from the sea front restaurant. The tour company did revise the holiday so went to Lithuania first and Latvia next.

I would unironically love to see your reviews. Hit the team up

fake e: "Mine was on the lower ground floor and had a view of a bush" are the best 14 words I've read, in order, today. Scorchio.

One of my dads friends used to tell us a story of where he was put up in a hotel for work and the bed/mattress was just bowing in the middle so he took the door off and put it underneath (he had a bad back at the best of times).
