Worst lager in England?

Bud in the middle? Really?

You have to admit it's better than Carling and Fosters. In bottle form and if you get a good batch anyway. Have had a nice chilled Bud from pubs in the past and it was a nice refreshing drink. Also better for being 5%, rather than Carling and Fosters being 4%.

Grolsch is a little too sweet for me, but seems like a better lager than the cheapies. Always seem to get a sharp pain in one of my teeth whenever I drink Cider or Grolsch :D.

@tomparker95 Holsten Pils used to be great.

It's now not... not sure why, change of hand on the ownership side perhaps?

It's still better than Fosters/CastlemaineXXXX/Carling/Carlsburg etc.

I like it, always my budget choice as its usually £3.50 for 4 in asda. I havent drunk it for long but noticed its brewed under Carlsberg? If it hasnt always been that may explain the change you describe.

Breaker. Fortunately its only sold in cans, I would think the can tastes better. The main reason I've not drunk Lager for years, I now stick to the beer I drank (as a treat & only a small glass) when I went to my nan's when I was a kid (Adnams)

The ale and cider selection in the Wetherspoon pubs round here are pretty much the best range available in one place.

I especially love their cider festivals.

I'm not a fan of most Wetherspoons either, though a couple OK ones do exist. But they are doing a hell of a lot more for "real ale" than any other chain pub out there. In my experience their pubs are often the only ones in a city center where you'll find something that isn't overly cold lager with the only ale'ish option being overly cold Guinness.
Plus, they've always happily obliged my request to a free taste of whatever I fancy.
But yea, they also get in some truly awful beers as well! But I do remember one in Glasgow had 5 AM Saint in at £1.99 a pint!

Wow, and I thought Leeds was bad. We have 3 amazing bars with a wide selection of great IPAs. We use to have to travel to York for good drinks but we are doing ok now. Never go to chain bars, although North bar (city centre) has sister bars (including further north near my house) around the rest of Leeds. Other two are Friends of Ham and The White Swan (both city centre) for any Yorkshire folk interested :)

Worst - "Cannon", from Kwik Save (is it still going?), at about a heady 2.2% it was near impossible to even get a buzz from.
Best? Otter Creek IPA I had in Maine, USA - I still remember sitting outside on the deck drinking it in the sun.

Good idea for a thread hijack - list the good beer pubs in your city!

Bon Accord is fantastic, around 8 taps of ale.
Blackfriars is the best pub in Glasgow. 4 or 5 taps and the best American & Belgian beer fridge in the city.
Pot Still, two taps but rotate a lot and best whisky bar in the city.
Brewdog. Self explanatory.
Munros. Only been once, but they had around 6 taps with stuff I've never heard of before. Pretty trendy, and the focus seems to be on food but worth a mention.

We just got a Brewdog in Leeds. Haven't been yet but wasn't impressed with the Punk IPA from a bottle. Have been told it's not their best though.

Know what you mean, I reminisce about the Golden Road - Point the Way I had in LA. OMG that was a good drink. Yet to be beaten.

Not bad, haven't tried that one. Few of my faves:

All above 96 :)

The only one of them I can get hold of at Tesco is Sierra Nevada, so I'll grab a few of them next time I order online. The otheres look really good though, you dont happen to know a good place to buy online do you?

In tesco you can also get Sierra Nevada Torpedo, which is a stronger pale ale and is lovely. Waitrose do Jaipur 500ml for £2.50.

I have never used them but a mate orders from http://www.slurp.co.uk/ and says they are really good.

I order from Beer Ritz but that is a local place in Leeds, not sure if it is a chain or not.

Sierra Nevada isn't bad. Better on tap. Not very lagery tho.

I'm lucky enough to have a few places around here that source from the Camden Brewery (http://www.camdentownbrewery.com/). The Hells is really nice.

I cant stand this attitude of looking down your nose at lager drinkers. Stinks of snobbery.

So, I like Fosters. I suppose that makes me some of kind brainless, chavvy thug does it?
