Worthabuy - Illness?

That's a really sad situation. Hope he can get on the road to recovery soon. I absolutely love his youtube content. Personally speaking, I don't think I'd get wound up about some randoms comments on my youtube videos, I don't think I'd care less. This however is not the situation for Mack and it has affected him completely differently. I hope this doesn't get him down and force him to close his channel.

I suppose there is a case to argue that closing his channel could well be the best thing for him, at least in the short term. Going to be hard to overcome negativity from peoples comments or their own videos about his videos, if he is opening himself to them being able to do that. Though that's easier said than done if its his main form of income.

3200 USD gross per month is pretty crap money for the hours you have to put in and the negative health impacts.

That's JUST patreon donations. There will be YouTube and Stream revenue on-top and who knows what else. If you think at least 3200 per month with no travel/commuting costs is "pretty crap" then I'd love to see what you think is acceptable?

It's obvious isn't it! .There are no more attendance bells left to ring/ping after he destroyed them all. Takes time to manufacture several thousand he goes through a year.. I wish him all the best tbh. Funny guy.

From reading up I think so of the criticism comes from the variability of opinion and his inability to take differing opinions or criticism well. I read on his own Reddit page that he chastised The Witcher 3 for being too casual as the combat was too easy, but then complained about Dark Souls 3 because the combat was too hard...Unfortunately people are keen to jump on things like this and if you can't back up your opinion and don't take comments well something is going to snap.

As far as his income stream I also saw the following -
Y8HomSY.jpg

Fair do's that he provides content and gets paid for it, and it's great that he can talk about his struggles and sad that he's suffering, but perhaps he's found out that this is probably not the best line of work for him.

A lot of people go in with that kind of thinking... They then come out of it, because having complete strangers hurl pretty cutting personal insults at you over every tiny detail about you and every word you speak, every time you post a vid, does eventually wear on you. It would be easier if they were friends and knew you to some extent, but when it's people who've never even met you but still feel entitled to rip you and your entire life to pieces just for having a personal opinion... that breaks most people eventually. It's why I never want to be a celebrity.

Yep, I totally accept that.

Is this 3200 confirmed?
I also didn't think he could get monetised on many of his vids due to swearing, or something? Either way, YouTube doesn't bring in that much. Of those YouTubers I personally know, their estimated income (based on YouTube calculators) is about £40k pa, but I know they only get about £100 a month from it after everyone else takes their cut.

Yes it's on his patreon how much he gets

He also gets money from his affiliate links with GMG every time someone buys a game

If he didn't have such a terrible attitude I might feel sorry for his current condition but in what world do you think it's a good idea to be so vocal on a social platform and open yourself to criticism when you have problems with social anxiety ?

I wish Mack well on a speedy recovery.

I'm a Patreon supporter of Mack's and throw him a few quid a month, because I've enjoyed his content for many years (from the Mack and Mesh do Doom 3 days) and enjoy it - I don't always agree with him but he's a good bloke.

It's easy to say "well he gets paid well for sitting on his bum all day playing and reviewing games - what's not to like?".
Compared to some jobs I'm sure it's easy by comparison, but judging by the hours he was having to put in each week - comparative to working those same hours in a decent regular job - it wasn't that well paid, and it seems didn't allowing for a particularly healthy lifestyle, which thankfully he seems to be addressing now.

Anyone who's tried to make content, such as on YouTube can tell you just how many hours can go into producing and editing that, and everything else that goes along with it; it's not always as simple as it seems to produce good quality stuff and regularly - a 10-15 minute video doesn't just take 30 minutes to knock together and upload and you can quickly find there's a big difference between playing games in a recreational way to doing it as a full time job as a one man content creator, and all the opinions you get from random Joe Blogs as a result of all that work.

Point being, things aren't always as clear-cut as some think and mental health issues that can arise out of things like this are no joke - it's good he's taking a step back and trying to get himself sorted out and healthy again.

He may not help himself with his USP/Gimmick, the bell. Every streamer needs a gimmick or selling point and it does seem that his one of choice is that when something is bad he dings his bell, unfortunately that does sort of then require him to often give reviews with a more negative incline than positive because it present him the chance to ring the bell and thus present his gimmick of choice.

If he ever comes back to reviewing, I would suggest he drops the whole bell thing and maybe even try to lean toward reviews of a genre that he enjoys rather than blanket wide every genre. We know for instance that he is not at all a big fan of the action rpg sort of genre, hence his dislike of The Witcher and the Assassins Creed titles, so maybe don't bother to review those, try instead to concentrate on his own enjoyment as well.

I just find it ironic he's constantly bitching about precious flakes of snow, yet in reality he's one himself who doesn't like people saying mean things about him, I thought his skin was thicker

He does say in certain videos that comments don't bother him and if they are bad he will just move onto doing the next video. Though that's easy to say and maybe harder to actually do.

I do like his videos, I find him to be accurate, funny and honest, I wish him a speedy recovery.

He has a mental health issue. His reaction was based upon his illness. Nothing to do with being a "snow flake."

It's a 28k GBP gross salary. That's OK for a 5 days a week 9-5, with the added plus of getting outside and having real human beings to interact with. But working 7 days a week, stupid long hours like these people have to to keep their subs up? Sat at home in the dark dealing with internet ***** all day? I wouldn't do it for triple that.

EDIT: So he's the dude with the bell-ringing gimmick then? Can't stand his content personally, but it should be pretty obvious that he's just putting strong subjective opinions out there to get clicks, not a serious and considered critic.

He’s a snow flake. Messes up within a review as usual. Gets blacklash from internet trolls, cries and blames mental health...

I'm genuinely curious; what brought you to that conclusion? Is it not possible that he does have a mental health issue that needs addressing?

What an absolute wimp. Get a grip man. Respect lost slightly

Edit: seen the mental health concern etc. Fair enough but his review style is bound to cause a stir so maybe its time to find a new career ..

Exactly. Time to bugger off Mack it's not for you anymore.

Most of the people he berates likely have their own mental health issues who react based upon their illness, so sorry if I don't see your point

Sadly, that's not how mental health works. People who berate others aren't precluded from mental health issues. In fact, during my fifteen years working in health care, I can tell you for a fact that a significant proportion of people who are ill, project their negative emotions onto others due to their own personal mental instability. That obviously doesn't make it right, but then again the terms "right" and "wrong" when used in the context of a discussion about mental illness aren't always fitting. Just my opinion though, obviously. Perhaps he's making it all up for attention...
