Worthabuy - Illness?

He sounds very 'broken' in this video.

I suppose on paper it sounds like the dream job. During my peak Everquest days 70 to 80 hours a week was part time!

However gaming should be casual, and being required to slug through a game to bash out a decent review irrespective of whether or not I felt like it sounds like a nightmare.

Not for me......

So has he a history of pulling this kinda stunt every time he hits a bump in the road? Comes across as a right tool more times than not, calls out everyone then when he can’t handle it, he then turns into one of those snow *£@!% types he so often abuses in his rants.
Oh come on, mental health problems can be extremely debilitating and serious. He deserves sympathy and support not condemnation because condemnation is the most damaging thing for someone in his situation, some of us find him funny and want to see him back on his feet and enjoying life.

What I dont understand is how can you just "scrape by" while having $3500 in patreon money plus youtube/twitch money, id say hes getting at least £4000 a month. Thats a healthy salary for making 2-3 videos a week from the comfort of his bedroom.
Seems like a big ol sob story to me, lots of youtubers do this nowadays and people fall for it in droves.
If he is truly working 70+ hour weeks while struggling with severe mental health issues making him less efficient then he is just scraping by, you often have to play and complete many games that all come out at the same time before you can even make the video. Also, he has to buy his keys and get them later than most reviewers because publishers don't like his reviews which can be quite brutal which means he has to rush through the games in order to compete with the countless people who got early codes.

i think people dont have a issue if hes truly ill more the case of is he just putting it on for sympathy.
What evidence do people actually have that he's just putting it on? It's certainly not doing him any favours with the community and seems quite counterproductive, there is also still a lot of stigma when it comes to mental health unfortunately and I'm sure he could invent something that would garner more sympathy like a family member coming down with a serious illness and him having to take time off to care for them.

in this day and age with social media anything is possible or done. some people fake serious illness because they want extra attention. go to twitter facebook watch some social media person im at hospital in gown and picture. watch all the likes. you cant blame people for being suspicious he basically takes a new game does a angry joe rant about it. next new game follow same strategy. some of the games he does it on are totally untrue. yet he just does it anyway. as said hes caught a lot of flack in recent times because when people really like a game and he does the same old its broke this that rant and its a good game people wont be happy.

so what would be a good way to deflect some of the recent hate ? get sypathy. or apologise. a illness could do this. which is what people are suggesting. it is working aswell !

he might be ill. hope he gets better if he is but...in this day and age where people will do anything for the pound or social media you cant call people out for being skeptical. many social people fake things to get more popular or to deflect issues related to what they do or earn.

Wise words

Irrespective of inventing health problems, or even exaggerating the magnitude of extant ones, I have to say that I have a hard time believing that he puts in 80 hours a week. I'm no big fan of ACG, but he has a similar output and appears to be coping ok.

Does he do everything himself? Wouldn't be surprised if someone does the editing etc.

No idea, but given Mack has Worthabuy set up as a business and he's using it to fund a house purchase, is there any reason why he couldn't do similar? (assuming he doesn't already). ACG seemed like a one man band to me but obviously could be wrong....although haven't watched his stuff for a while either.

He'll only see about a quarter of that, after the various platforms take their cuts and he's paid his taxes and whatever.
On his Patreon he says he takes home £1700 a month from that alone (after deductions). Then you have his other income sources.

If people want a sick day when they are perfectly fine, they ring the boss and put on a poorly voice whilst lieing through their teeth. Mack is doing the typical social media alternative to that because he's hit a bump and getting loads of flack. Instead of manning up coming out and owning up to dropping several clangers or bad videos, he's used the classic social media excuse of I need a break I'm mentally ill sob story. So many YouTubers do it, it's a way of keeping fans subscribed knowing his YouTube channel will suffer. People buy into a sob story, it's so easy.

Should rename channel to DontBuyIt (the sob story not a game)

you often have to play and complete many games that all come out at the same time before you can even make the video.

:Guffaw: Before he hid his Steam gameplay history page you could clearly see the minimal hours he spent playing a game before he felt able to post an in depth "review". The only games which had any serious play time where clearly the ones he was just playing for his own enjoyment or streaming. Most others who claim to review games seem to think you have to completely beat a game before being able to review it. Anything other than that is first impressions. Worthabuy is by no means a games reviewer.

^^ Yet he's so often right about trash/good games.

The end result is what I'm after, if advise seems relatively solid then I'm happy with that. There are few Youtubers who complete games before posting, most including WAB are very open when they've only had a couple of days to download/install/play in advance of release etc.

Good for you if you like his stuff. Personally I'm put off by his blatant misogynistic tendancies more than anything.

He generally states how long he's played it and how far in he's got, though, so it's not exactly a secret.
Except there's no way to verify that....if he simply made his Steam user page public then it'd be a lot more genuine and there's no real reason not to if he's allowing comments on his Reddit page or youtube videos.

Does it really matter? He says he is suffering from burnout and needs a break. either believe him or dont that is up to you but publicly intimating he is a liar without proof is off imo.
The only reason that he should be more accountable is because he's taking payment for his content. Perhaps if he didn't continually stress how much time he works on it it'd be more tolerable but given that he takes a monthly donation rather than a per video donation I think that a little transparency isn't too much to ask for.

Fair do's he needs a break...
