I would consider ditching my PC for a console, as soon as a console comes out which:
- Is backwards compatible with all games released on the same platform for the last ~20 years
- Can be played either plugged into a TV with a controller, or at a desk with M&KB
- Supports 21:9 and multiple monitors
- Allows easy installation of 3rd party (non official) hardware and software
- Is easy to upgrade/replace faulty individual components
- Can be used for software development and day-to-day home-office tasks (e.g. word processing, printing documents etc.)
Being realistic, other than initial installation/setup, I can't see any benefit which consoles have over PCs other than price - which is becoming less of a factor with every generation of console, and is also quickly wiped out when you consider the difference in price of games over the life of the system.
