Would you go to a theme park on your own?

I love fast / 'scary' rides like roller coasters etc.

I go to them with my family sometimes but, apart from their company of course :'), it's generally an awful experience at the weekend / in school holidays for all the obvious reasons, i.e. queues, children constantly complaining or asking for things, and general reluctance to go on decent rides.

Therefore I'm thinking about going to Alton Towers for a day on my own to scratch the itch and rinse loads of rides, as it should be really quiet on a random day in the middle of the week in school term.

I'm 42 FML and friends are all likely to be working and unlikely to take a day off for this (although I haven't asked and not sure I want to anyway).

Sad?

Dont see why not, I mean the rides themselves you see many on their own, who they are with might not want to go on the rides etc.

Do it, you can wander around at your own pace, just do what you want to do - only drawback is if you get caught in any long queues solo, might be a bit tedious.

Also not sure if we have solo rider queues here which are shorter, I know in the US it's a big thing.

I probably wouldn't go in my own, but no real reason not to imo! I'd have thought it would be worth checking that all the big rides are actually running on the day you want to go though - imagine they might not want to staff / maintain them all the time...

Not strictly but went on many rides by myself as my missus pooped her pants on the Wickerman and my daughter backed down from Nemesis in the queue when it went rumbling past (To be fair she is only 10 and I think now she would do it).

I went on Smiler by myself as a result and got fast tracked front seat which was fantastic. (slightly concerned I would keep my legs ;)). I did feel a little odd as a man in his early 30's sitting with giggling teenagers but that soon went once we got going and they shut up!

Of course why wouldn't you?

I'd rather go and do something I enjoy on my own rather than miss out just because no one else wanted to go.

Definitely. Also happy to eat out at restaurants by myself, go to pubs solo, go on holidays by myself, etc. once you’re comfortable doing these things then life does get better!
I’ve got a week off at the end of this month and plan to do all of the above. Friends are likely working/have kids so can’t join. Missus is working.

No.

I wouldn't want to be put in a carriage on my own, as some sort of leper. Nor do I want to share a 2 seater carriage with some random, whilst trying to have fun and experience the adrenaline rush.

I bet there's a group of people somewhere out there, who arrange days at theme parks for those who don't want to take the family along.

One of the most empowering things in life is being comfortable and satisfied in your own company and not relying on others for fulfilment - it can be almost addictive at times.
