WOW @ the space station & shuttle.

I saw it last night, nothing really to see, it was just a light moving fast :/

Dunno what I was expecting. XD

Might not be the best thing in the world, but to think how far away it is and to also think people are inside it travelling at 17,500 mph is very impressive :)

We're talking 2001 space odyssey **** here :p

Hmm. I've got a 400D with the kit lens and a Sigma 70-300 APO DG. Might have to get the tripod out and have a go one night

hah!
I got the same kit.

went out tonight to see what I could get, but nothing great.

I edit this post later, and put my pics in.
didnt use the sigma, used the Kit lens.

I haven't seen it yet but I don't really know what I'm looking for :/ i did see a shooting star tonight though :D

Couldn't figure out how to work Heavens-Above till now, will need to wait till tomorrow to see it again. On the website, the column "Az." is that the direction of where to look? It says 'W' for me some im guessing thats West?

Yes, it has start, max altitude and ends it goes from *start* to *end* via max altitude.
So if it says W under the start column, then look west. Mag (magnitude) is the brightness, lower number is brighter.

Been looking out every night since the launch, you can see ISS at all times anyway if the weather conditions are right, but to see the shuttle on its tail is quite a sight, on the last space shutle mission it came over where we are about 30 seconds behind, quite amazing to think that there are men and women up there looking down on earth going at almost 5 miles per second!!

OMG I SAW IT!

After standing outside for 10minutes looking at the stars thinking which isit. I looked at the moon and BAM saw it speeding past it, I could even make out the solar panels. However, my eye site is quite bad. So I could have been hallucinating, saw it for maybe 20seconds until it just dissapeard. But I could see it clear enough with my glasses.

Solar Panels with your eyes?

I can barely make it out with a 480mm lens or my 18 year old eyes :p

Just seen the ISS after the weather man said it would pass over a few min ago, dam it moves fast doesn't it? Like a bright star moving across the sky. Has it only just become visible with new extensions or has it been visible for a few years?

Then I must have been imagining things. Sware It was like if they were spinning around.

EDIT: Saw the flares from the solar panels. Not them, themselves.

It's been visible for a few years, obviously as bits get added on it gets more illumination hitting it and thus becomes brighter. :)

Well I saw a couple of objects, but they were most likely planes :p

Does it have any flashing lights? The heavens above page shows that for tommorow the 'Az' is W. What is that West of? please excuse my ignorance, I'm new to this all :)

I want to be well prepared for tommorow. Thanks!

Astronomers at a Boston-area high school snapped this stunning picture of the space shuttle Atlantis docking with the International Space Station, 190 nautical miles up. The folks at the Clay Center Observatory did it with a 25-inch diameter telescope in combination with a digital video camera -- and nothing but the simplest "adaptive optics" (bendable mirrors, which correct for how the atmosphere warps the light). "Makes one wonder what certain military/government instruments can do in similar situations," one observer quips.

No flashing lights i'm afraid :)

Az stands for azimuth

If it says 'W' then that would be due West
