WP8.1

Oh cool. Does that mean there are finally some decent clock/calendar tiles available like the HTC one?

Edit: Erm... searching the store for "calendar clock tile" returns results for wordsearch apps! Even when I'm trying to improve it WP is still failing at even the simplest task!

I don't know what you call cool. I don't use a clock app. as theres no need, clock is displayed in glance screen, locked screen and top left corner by battery status.

Calender I use True calendar 8. As it displays colours by events unlike the stock one.

I had an 8s for a week and the clock/calendar tile was great. I was annoyed to then get my Lumia and discover that tile was a HTC exclusive, and they had been given "special permission" by Microsoft to allow the tile to update more than once every 30 minutes.

That's probably why there arnt many clock tiles... they simply didn't work until recently!

When I first got WP and found that the maximum refresh was 30 mins I felt calling them "live" tiles was a bit of a con.

1 minutes enough for most things, but as with a lot in WP8.1, its stuff that really should have been here a looooooong time ago.

So I guess my problem is just gonna be ignored because it doesn't match the perfect impression of WP that this thread is trying to give off?

Unless you have it set to India region, it should be there.

Edit and 930 and 630s. Iirc you have 930. So no you can't change it and no word from MS on why.
930 really is turning into a flop.
830 has glance, sd card, Google and cheaper

Perfect impression? I hate Windows Phone! And from trying to solve some issues tonight I've discovered you can't change they keyboard, you can't change the actions of the search button, you can't change the browser (or at least if you can, there's nothing worth chamiging too), and you can't have useful live tiles because Microsoft have only just allowed them to actually work!

Oh, and the store thinks word searches are calendar tiles, and I just sent yet another half written email to my boss as they keyboard layout is terrible.

I think the keyboard is the one of the best I've ever used on a mobile phone.

The rest though I'd agree with. The lack of true live tiles or a different browser is a pain.

What phone have you got? On the small screen 620 the predictive key scaling makes portrait typing a chore and the lack of width makes landscape typing a game of miniature thumb twister.

It just seems like a major oversight for a phone with the same capabilities and that comes from the same manufacturer, with the same software, to not have a feature, yet the other one does.

It's frankly embarrassing. It's times like these when I understand why Windows 8 exists.

Thats been quite common for years.

Well he said features. As for software it used to not uncommon for phone to be missing some software like a full version of a GPS/Navigation apps, or no count down timers, or Wifi Radio, or office apps or music software like track ID or Walkman software for no real reason other than marketing product separation.

In the android world you get phones stuck on an old version of the OS while their hardware is the same or better than new phone with the latest version of the OS. Again just forced obsolesce by the manufacturers.

Dropping features is a real Nokia/lumia "feature". One phone will have clear black screen, the next won't. One will have a glance screen the next won't. Windows 8 brings its own differences with drive+ world on some phones and not on others. Cortana is in some regions and not in others. Even the apps store shows different apps depending on region.

Picking up old Nokia's no two of them had exactly the same menus. They looked kinda the same but when you were used to one you'd find stuff missing or in different places on another one. For no real reason.

My point is I dunno how you're surprised at this its being going on for decades.

We aren't comparing history though. We are talking about the very basic simple things that you can't do on WP today, that you can do on Android or iOS today.
