WP8.1

Its a work phone. I get a new allowance every 2 years.

I have asked about swapping it for one of the spares in the office... but they are all WP too. Which kinda says it all really :p

Will Windows 10 work on existing Nokia (x3x) hardware? I've had a WP7 phone for over 3 years now but with the amount of apps no longer suitable for 7.8 I'm considering upgrading (even though there's nothing else wrong with my current phone), but I don't want to get a new handset if the apps once again will be removed (Skype, looking at you) within 2-3 years of ownership.

What is making you regret the choice?

Lots and lots of little annoying things that build up to a general feeling of it being inferior to Android and iOS in every way. There are a few key things that are missing, and a lot of annoyances that you can't change.

I know very few people who are happy with their WP. I know nobody happy with one if they moved from an iPhone or high end Android.

I'm very happy with WP compared to high-end Android, at least high end a couple of years ago. I haven't tried today's high-end Android phones.

Am with him here, I initially loved my Lumia 1520, made a nice change from android. But you really are limited apps wise, there isn't even a decent browser! My internet explorer it's forever crashing a and then opened up on some old page.

Worst offender is search though, instead of a nice google search in the browser you get this awful one missing things like shopping tab etc. Lots of niggling things that are making me want to move back to android now :/

The browser is fine.
Go to settings, advance settings, select Google instead of bing as default search engine.

And do a factory reset, never had IE crash in wp8.1

In WP8.1 Internet Explorer is a great browser, the only issues I've had are on non-standards compliant websites that assume a mobile browser must be running webkit.

As far as default search engine goes, as Glaucus said, on the 1520 you can change the default search in the browser. Bing is OK as a search engine, but I've found the shopping results from Google to be particularly useless so I don't know why anyone would miss them.

Personally I much prefer Windows Phone to Android or iOS as it feels like the most thoughtfully consistent user experience. Android is still a mish-mash of ideas and styles, even on stock AOAP, and the blatant advertising within apps just cheapens the whole experience. iOS never feels like the premium experience the price tag suggests it should be.

Or just press volume key and you'll get a bar drop down from the top. Pause, skip forward, skip back.
The ui is by far the best, standised looking widgets. Rather than a mess from different design philosophies. And if you don't want live tiles, then you can still have normal size icons like on any other platform.

Should have gone with 830 though, as you are missing glance screen.

Pretty funny as you haven't even worked out the basics yet. Just like so many people. Just like the person who said I hate bing why can't I use Google. Um you can.

I own a 520 and seriously thinking of going Android!

735 is the best budget hardware, far better than motoG. Obviously depends what OS and apps you like though.

You're obviously going to be biased towards Windows Phone as it's your platform of choice (you created this thread after all), which is fine.

But, the lack of apps on Windows Phone are the biggest limiter for me. Spotify on Windows Phone is just a joke.

Apps are worse on wp8, although most important ones are there and in a good state.
But you have not given it a fair chance as your comments prove. when you don't even know the basics you certainly don't know what it's capable off.

In a good state? Spotify's poor, Facebook is poor, no Google apps, no Snapchat. Why would I use an OS with worse apps (or no apps) when Android has these apps and they work perfectly?

I will of course use it more but I bought the phone because I was curious about WP. I never planned on switching to it full time. Happy Android user here ;)
