Made the same mistake years ago thinking it was the on/off switch, dropped the whole case on the floor and smoke was puffing out of the PSU. Luckily no fire, killed the motherboard though because the caps were all bent outwards about to burst.

Easy mistake to make if you dont look behind when you turn the PSU on/off. None i've had since got that voltage switch on it, should not be there anyway imo.
